When you review the literature, you see that Conway Twitty was introduced to American consciousness as a "rock star."
This amuses those of us with a taste for the more atonal forms, for whom "Twitty" is the sappiest name imaginable for a talent in America's most dynamic popular art form.
I'm sure he's a very nice man.

From Wikipedia:
...Originally titled Let's Go Steady, Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. The rock star character's name, "Conrad Birdie", is word play on the name of Conway Twitty. Twitty is best remembered today for his long career as a country music star, but in the late 1950s, he was one of Presley's rock 'n' roll rivals.
The original 1960–1961 Broadway production was a Tony Award–winning success. It spawned a London production and several major revivals, a sequel, a 1963 film, and a 1995 television production. The show also became a popular choice for high school and college productions...

Obviously, they couldn't have written it in quite the same way after February 7th, 1964 - or maybe not even as late as that.
I was kind of surprised to see it was written as early as 1960!

A long twitter thread about the hollowing out of the major cities. A taste:
"Here's my neighborhood, Mike: An elderly man, enjoying dinner w/his wife at an outdoor restaurant, punched in the face. A woman waiting for the subway to come stabbed in the back. An older neighbor pausing to catch his breath told to pay two dollars in protection money or get
"the fuck off that particular street corner. This is just the ten block radius from where I live in the last six days."
Recently I've noticed: I'll screenshot something-meme, news headline, what have you. Day or 2 later, it's been removed from my phone. I wouldn't notice probably except they leave a black box where the pic should be in my gallery.
I'm moving to.a flip.phone without internet.

Nowadays Google is for a few essential —and therefore risk-worthy— chores. Everything else happens on mix of DDG, Bing (as evil as G but not as intimidating) and lesser engines.
