So look, Twitter's great and all, but it's difficult to keep up with each tragedy and personality with the unrest happening in so many cities.
So an hour ago, I read this story, linked by the mighty Eli Lake.
And an hour later? Well, as CNN might put it....
We might not be doing ourselves any favors my moving away from a 24-hour news cycle. It's like the fascination with immediate election results through electronic voting. It's fast; but what good does that do?

Dr. Tam also said, "The lowest risk sexual activity during COVID-19 involves yourself alone."
When I saw that, I said to my wife, "Did she just tell us to Go fuck ourselves?".

She's pretty, lives in California, and hates Trump with the fury of a thousand suns.
I'm not talking about Jack btw.

Golly, that Donald Trump sure loves the troops, don't he?
Crid at September 4, 2020 8:14 AM
Really?
Does anyone actually read Stars and Stripes any more? Print journalism is dead.
Stars and Stripes was valuable to the troops when they couldn't pull up the internet and read the bird cage liner of their choice, and the local rag didn't deliver to combat zones, at least not in a timely manner. Now, they can read the hometown news service on the computer back at base camp. They get emails or texts from back home.
Stars and Stripes served its purpose, but that purpose may be better served by different technology now - with the money spent on Stars and Stripes going to weapons and training.

It's VERY late in the day to learn that Trump cares about budgets. (Note precise date of publication.)

Not one of our political parties or personalities cares about budgets anymore.
I have to wonder if this is a Trump call or a Pentagon call. After all, I don't think Trump pores over his administration's budget proposals with a watchful eye for waste. Trump's concern with defense spending in the past has centered around the F-35 and F-22 programs.
As the article mentions, Stars and Stripes is $15.5 million out of a $700 billion budget for only one cabinet department. I have a feeling when Esper and Milley show up at the White House to discuss DoD budgeting, Stars and Stripes rates barely a mention.
Unless it somehow pissed off Donald with a less-than-flattering editorial, I can't see him taking an interest in it. It seems to be the Pentagon that wants it shut down quickly.
Of course, as president, Trump is responsible for the decisions that come out of his administration, so he will have to bear the blame if the shut-down turns out to be devastating to troop morale.
Maybe Patrick, Isab, or another veteran on here can let us know how important it was to them when deployed to receive paper copies of Stars and Stripes and we can judge whether this will be the morale-buster critics claim it will be.
Conan the Grammarian at September 4, 2020 9:59 AM
I can't 'see him taking an interest' beyond his own deficient ego in ANY EARTHLY CONTEXT.
• This is some of the most fun I've ever had one Twitter. Seriously read it all.
Crid at September 4, 2020 10:35 AM
I've been reading about the IV wars. Both Trump and Biden have "suspicious" bruises or band-aids on their hands where an IV might be inserted.
Trump supporters are accusing Biden of being juiced on amphetamines; that's how he's able to rise to the occasion in public appearances after seemingly being adrift on tv appearances.
Biden supporters haven't come up with an accusation for Trump's bloody band-aid, but give them time. Trump aides say he hurt his hand playing with Barron.
Trump wants drug tests before any debates and has said he'll take one, too. Maybe he'll be off of whatever he's on by then.
Keep in mind these two men are contesting for the presidency of something bigger than the senior class. In this job, the stakes are for considerably more than the head cheerleader's sexual favors.
We've already had one president who was constantly juiced on amphetamines and he got his ass handed to him by Khrushchev in '61. Kennedy's poor performance in their first meeting emboldened Khrushchev and that gave us the Berlin Wall as well as the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Crid on your budget article
It claim Obama had a total of 2% cuts, with a 10% cut in military funding
I dont see how that is possible with
the expansions of food stamp & medicare,
and ObamaCare,
a larger surge than under Bush2,
more wars than under Bush2,
more drones/bombs built and deployed than under Bush2,
more spent on the Mexico border wall than the last 5 presidents combined,
the emergency construction for all those kid cages,
the cost of deporting more illegal immiigants than any one else in history ever
and even though it was shut down after that expose by Project Veritas the Obama admin gave a tome of money to pimps
Plus all the money wasted on green energy start ups
car manufacturers ect.
Just dont understand how they are figuring Obama actually spent less than all his predecessors
lujlp at September 4, 2020 12:24 PM
Looj, our nation is off the rails. Why are you blaming ME????
Seriousballs— When you list it like that, there isn't a single issue from which I'd expected honest numbers from either the journalists or the government administrators who are spending our money.
This is a tremendously shitty year.

"Just don't understand how they are figuring Obama actually spent less than all his predecessors "
creative accounting.
For example trillion $ stimulus loans loaned out in Bush paid back in Obama, get counted neg for bush and Positive For O.
Next is to only look at "discretionary spending" Obamacare doesn't get considered discretionary.
Next they always talk about things being investments in our future, investments get accounted for differently.

Not blaming, but as you posted the link I'd assume you have some insight
lu at September 4, 2020 5:14 PM
Nope, no insight. I thought the 'losers & suckers' thing would turn out to be a con, while the 'closing S&S' thing would be real… At this hour, it looks like that's backwards. But check again in 12 hours.
(If I was going to trust someone's stats, it would probably be Cato's. Those people sit around the office being real for 8 hours a day interrupted only by bologna sandwiches, so they don't much bother with fudged numbers.
