Linklocks
Braiding is thing humans have long done w/hair. Also, the Vikings appear to have worn dreadlocks.

Nobody "owns" a hairstyle, historically ignorant "cultural appropriation!" screechers.
PS The US being a NATION of people appropriating others' cultures makes us vastly better. https://t.co/6zUjw47vse

Put these on the wrong thread, but I like them:
• True Serious— Barro & Carney are very, very, very different men… But both recognize an important principle.
• Less Serious— Computers before micros.

Sigh. I have found a very early comment by Artemis. From April 29, 2005, it consisted of just one word: "Test".
Ahh, the good old days!

How is it the Democratic Party completely forgot Al Gore?

He failed.

Most everyone did. By happenstance I learned two days ago that the OK Go guy, who is fun and playful, married a Gore girl, who, by heritage, is probably not.

Excellent Ellis. This man, um, understands elections.

Ellis nailed it, "Nowhere is it written that voters have to like Trump to vote for him."

One of the areas I know something about. We used to say that the Field Artillery eats their young.
In most of the Combat arms branches the rank structure resembles a steep pyramid. They need lots and lot of junior officers. Fewer field grade officers and very few senior Colonels and generals.
Non combat arms branches look rather different. You have an increased chance of actually getting promoted into the higher ranks (and having a career that you can retire from) because the promotion pyramid has a smaller base but a large flat top.
The black combat arms Senior officers I knew back in the day were outstanding leaders. They had to be. It was dog eat dog getting to the top.
Usually 60 percent of military academy grads are out of the service by year seven or eight. Too many better opportunities working for defense contractors, and they don’t really fare any better than the ROTC grads in the mad scramble to get to Field grade where you have an excellent chance of reaching the magic 20 years.

I have a friend who was OCS in the Navy. He moved up the ranks until he was told hi next billet had to be at sea in order for him to make rank. That meant at least 9 months away from his family. He left the Navy, did his time in the Reserves and is now a full civilian. Becoming an admiral had been his dream since high school - until he decided his family was more important.
Achieving flag rank is tough and takes some serious dedication. As it probably should when you consider what those folks are responsible for.

This is approaching an abject condition of psychopathology.
