I didn't know that ALL drugs were that expensive. Maybe it was unintentional?
In the meantime, here's something else to watch out for - not Halloween-related. But some insecure, lonely kids will get pulled into mentalities like this, whether by peers or by parents. (Almost like drugs or porn - or worse.)

It's not very long, as threads go.
Please note that, unlike in other Reddit threads, the OP did NOT have any implausible story to tell - he was merely asking a question, albeit a cynical one, and many were only too glad to respond. But, as you may have guessed already, the responders are pretty bitter and pessimistic, which of course no one really wants a teen to be...right? (Note the 11-point list, in particular. It's about halfway down, and each point is in bold font.)

Some time ago, I saw on Twitter someone had posted a video, addressed to those who ever "wanted to pee on Chelsea Handler."
This, of course, was the famous video of Chelsea Handler swimming while getting urinated on.
This caused me to erupt in a fit of giggles, because I think I had heard the name enough times in my life to realize that she was someone in the public eye, but back then I had no idea who she was. Comedienne? Political commentator?
Now, all of a sudden, she's become about as loathsome an individual that could possibly exist. She is apparently appointed herself the policewoman of black people, subjecting them to vigorous tongue-lashings, if they dare decide to vote in a way she doesn't approve.
Peeing on her was apparently too mild. She needs to be disabused of her delusions of grandeur.

The world seems full of white people who want to lecture black people about what it's like and what it means to be black.
Ditto for black people lecturing white people about their "privilege" and how easy they have it in life.
Perhaps we should just go back to recognizing that some people have it easy in life and some don't; and race plays surprisingly little actual role in that. Jaden Smith certainly had an easier road than I did, with wealthy and well-connected parents to grease the skids for him.
With any other lineage, Hunter Biden would be a homeless drug addict by now. And, perhaps, even with the name Biden, had Beau survived and Joe not been left with only one surviving son.
I think that's why it's easy for rich and connected white liberals to see their privilege being in whiteness. Their "wealth guilt" compels them to find a scapegoat.
Without a politically-connected aunt in Nancy Pelosi, would Gavin Newsom have been able to enter politics, or survive the scandal of his affair and drinking problem? Likely not. Knowing this, he over-compensates by insisting all white Californians share his privilege. They don't.
Reluctant to admit that the "privilege" is theirs alone, these wealthy white liberals happily apply the "privilege" to all white people to spread the guilt around. If they can point to their "wokeness," all the better to assuage their guilt.
The thing that annoys the guilty white liberals about rich conservatives is that those folks don't feel guilty about amassing and enjoying wealth. Donald Trump does not apologize for being successful and wealthy. Nor does Curtis Jackson.

The halloween candy stuff does happen. But yeah it seems like 99.9999% it is a hoax (maybe I am missing a few 9s).
I remember the finger in a coke can hoax a few years back here in Texas. A lady bought a coke at a grocery store. Had the checkout person open it. Then turned around and clumsily stuffed a detached finger into the can. At which point she tried to claim she found a severed finger in her drink. Understandably the cops got called both for the fraud and to find out where she got a severed finger from.
Agreed on the bad advice Lenona. The kid is 14. He just started puberty. The MRA depression manifesto is not age appropriate. But kudos to the parent recognizing they didn't know what to do and seeking advice. Even if most of the advice wasn't worth much.

I read an article on this and found out that Handler and Jackson used to date. So, she's coming at this not only from the standpoint of a wealthy liberal white woman lecturing black people, but as a woman lecturing an ex-boyfriend.

She's technically an aunt-by-marriage, but I've heard her referred to casually as Newsom's aunt and I understand she's been a help to him politically.
Like the Lowells and Cabots of Boston, "There are four influential families in San Francisco: the Newsoms, the Pelosis, the Gettys, and the Browns. The four families are tied by blood, marriage, business, and politics."
Here’s to dear old Boston,
Home of the bean and the Cod,
Where the Lowells speak only to Cabots,
And the Cabots speak only to God.

Conan:
Apparently oblivious -- or worse, indifferent -- to the inherent racism behind this attitude. I can't even call it "well-meaning but misguided" because it isn't well-meaning.
On the subject of deciding for people how we're supposed to vote, based on our demographic, you may have missed the text message I got two days ago, which I shared yesterday.
"Hi Patrick! This is Mars w/Equality Florida Action Inc., your LGBTQ rights org! Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will fight to defend marriage equality from attacks and finally end gay and transgender discrimination. Our records show that you've requested a Vote-By-Mail ballot! Do you have a plan for how to submit your ballot?"
I replied: "Yes, I do. But I will not be voting for Biden. Thank you."
They replied: "The Trump/Pence Administration has tirelessly fought to roll back LGBTQ rights, from banning Transgender individuals from joining the military, to allowing health care providers to discriminate against LGBTQ patients. We must elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to ensure that the LGBTQ community is protected. Can we count on you to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris?"
I replied, "Sorry, no. Although I am a gay person, the left has become far too toxic. They are seeking to stop free speech, even through the use of violence and are complicit in the destruction of major cities, like Seattle and Portland. Honestly, it would be better to lose our rights as gay people than to allow our cities to burn and for lawless bad faith actors to loot and harm people, destroying their livelihoods."
You know, for as long as I've been here, I've been called a liberal.
I didn't vote for Gore (I voted for Nader), I didn't vote for Obama either time (due to his associations with Jeremiah Wright, reasoning that if a white person had similar associations, he would never be allowed to run for President, much less be elected). Not wild about McCain and even less about Romney (the latter having a history of anti-gay harassment and animal abuse), but I preferred them to Obama.
Certainly didn't vote for Hillary. Having served during the Middle Eastern conflict, I didn't relish the prospect of her flinging open the doors to Middle Eastern refugees, so they could visit the kind of horror there were inflicting in Germany and other parts of Europe. I voted for Trump before and did so again.
I have no problem with transgendered not being allowed to serve, despite the fact that I served during the active anti-gay ban, and later during "Don't Ask; Don't Tell."
Hypocritical? I never thought so. Given the horror stories I've read about the medical issues of gender reassignment surgery, particularly male to female, I felt it best that they don't join the military. Also, I consider joining the military just so they can get gender reassignment surgery at government expense to be despicable.
Yet, I am a liberal. Just ask anyone on this blog.
Patrick at October 25, 2020 9:53 AM
Maybe it's that vote for Nader.... 😀
Actually, based on some of the early things that I read from you, I once assumed you were fairly liberal. Not so much now. Both you and I are now apparently neo-Nazi sympathizers.
I did see the text you shared. I've decried the assumptions behind assuming bloc voting by certain demographic groups before, so I won't go into them now.
I'm registered Unaffiliated in NC, so I'm getting texts urging me to vote for Biden-Harris. I delete them. None from Trump so far; maybe his digital game is limited to Twitter.
I've gotten door-to-door canvassing for Trump, but none so far for Biden. I just nod my head in agreement and hope the canvassers go away without too much speechifying. If they talk too much, I have a pot on the stove.
Apparently, I am on a list of available "undecided" voters who need to be harassed, um, convinced.
Living in California, I was not subject to PAC activity and lots of politics ads. The outcome of the vote was pretty much known from the start. OTOH, NC is a battleground state and the pitches come fast and furious.
I wonder if the lack of door-to-door canvassing for Biden is an indication that his support is soft - or mostly anti-Trump rather than pro-Biden. A recent trip outside the city revealed strong Trump support in the sticks - lots of Trump signs there, while only a smattering of Biden signs here in the city.
What's disconcerting is the amount of information each campaign has been able to gather about individual voters.

Donate to one, you get on everyone’s list. However there can be confusion.
Someone named Megan apparently gave my phone number out as hers about ten years ago. Now I get a text messages every election from all the dem pacs in Colorado, asking me to vote for bla bla bla. Not a Colorado resident. I type STOP almost every day. Get rid of one, five more groups pop up in it’s place.
Unfortunately they all seem to get thru but the returned phone call from my plumber goes directly to voice mail, and he is in my address book.
Apparently Verizon is now working for the dems. Probably have been all along.

I got another one from a Biden supporter. Evidently, they don't know as much about voters as they should.
"Hi, Michelle, it's Bonnie with FL Democrats. Wanted to check in and let you know that early voting has begun statewide! Can I count on you to vote this weekend for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and FL Democrats?"
I said, "Nope. Democrats are complicit in the looting, rioting and destruction in major cities like Portland and Seattle. I will never vote for a Democrat again, for any reason."
She said, "Respectfully, I disagree. Joe has pushed back strongly against all violence. Biden has also stated that he is not for defunding the police. In fact, he wants to invest in our police! Biden and the Democrats support legislation to make our communities safer, end cash bail, eliminate mandatory minimums and address systemic misconduct in police departments. You can see his plans for that here: https://joebiden.com/justice/ "
I replied, "With all due respect, Biden has NOT condemned violence and never will, when it's committed by the left. Saying antifa is 'just an idea' is both cowardly and disingenuous. There are a lot of 'ideas' burning and looting in major cities.
"I wish you the best of luck in find support for your candidate, but you will not find it here."
She said, "Thanks for letting me know. Have a nice day."

The 70's were great, right? Man… They were the best!
Three weeks ago I got a text from an out-of-state Biden person, "Mike," addressing me by my first name and asking if JoeBoy & Kammy could count on me for my supppoblahblah, because I'm a lifelong registered Democrat. (It's been thirty years since my heart was in it, but this afforded my vote against Hilly in Cal's 2008 primary.)
I texted back Who the fuck are you strike my name from your list never contact me again.
He texted back something like "Okay, sorry."
So next time I'll send Who the fuck are you strike my name from your list never contact me again [and] do not reply.
Because, see, you can get a little bit better at it every time!… There's always room to be a little ruder… To drain a little more of their political enthusiasm… To denigrate their deepest life force… To assist the reconsideration of their entire socialist cosmology.
Do your part.

While one could argue that it's just another example of stereotyping the young, the singer, Micah Tyler, is clearly a millennial himself. (Born in 1983.) But then, he's a Christian pop singer, so I'm guessing he considers "his kind" to be a separate breed.
Lenona at October 25, 2020 9:56 PM
Patrick I'm impressed you are willing to respond back to them. I don't have the energy and it doesn't feel like it is worth the risk.
And apparently my name is Tami. People from all walks of life want Tami's vote.

Lenona, as a millennial I don't take offense. I rather enjoyed it. No separate breed. He is poking fun at his own culture and his own generation. Most of us don't have man-buns. But the man-buns definitely try to represent us.
Ben at October 26, 2020 7:08 AM
IDK about other states, but here in NC, I only need your name and birthdate to look up your voter registration and past voting habits - i.e., which primary you voted in (Rep or Dem and which year) and which election you voted in. Fill a database with that information and you know who's an active voter and what affiliation everyone has.
