Here's a fun little article for you Star Wars fans out there: The Case for the Empire.
Even if, like I do, you have only a cursory understanding of the Star Wars universe, it's an interesting article and makes a case for imperialism.
Also, his describing the Ewoks as "annoying" endears the author to me.

"Also, his describing the Ewoks as "annoying" endears the author to me."
They were annoying. And the ethical gymnastics required to justify the Rebels enlisting a primitive tribe into dying on their behalf seems unexplored.

In all of the time we spend observing the Rebel Alliance, we never hear of their governing strategy or their plans for a post-Imperial universe.
Which might explain why the Rebels and the New Order (or whatever they're called) are still blasting away at each other in the sequels.
But, as they say, it's a lot easier (and more fun) to burn down the outhouse than it is to install modern plumbing, and the latter would make for a boring movie.

After watching college kids and their teachers loot and burn cities in the name of social justice this year I think the Ewoks dying for the rebels starts to make sense.

The motivation of the Ewoks to fight the Empire, an entity that mostly left them alone, was never explored. The underlying assumption seemed to be that the Empire was inherently evil and, therefore, every species stood willing and eager to fight it.
Conan the Grammarian at November 24, 2020 7:33 AM
More of an evil vs. evil situation there. The Empire's willingness to massacre civilian targets (even on the scale of a planet) pretty much ends the moral argument for the Empire. But just because the Empire is bad doesn't mean their opponents are good.
What is more interesting is the universe in the series appears to be somewhat conscious. Anakin Skywalker was prophesied to 'bring balance to the force'. And he does. By killing off almost every single Jedi and Sith out there. Looks like the cosmos got tired of people peeking under it's skirts so it squashed the bugs annoying it.

No way, the Ewoks ROCKED.
But then I was 7 when it came out...

Imagine a similarly unlikely Confederate victory, nearly a hundred years after the Revolutionary War:
"Huzzah! The gentlemanly agricultural South has defeated the brutal industrial North ... and reinstated the Royal Family".

Ewoks! I think they were properly names EW!oks as they were just way too cute. Sickeningly cute.
The original Star Wars was the only one worth watching. It was very corny, but in a good way as it was a space-fantasy of "let's rescue the princess held prisoner in the castle" story.
Star Wars was also good in that it pushed the whole Planet of the Apes nonsense out of being considered the Best Science fiction franchise to date. In fact, Star Wars just blew away Planet of the Apes.
As for the Ewoks; OMG, yes those little teddy bears were beyond annoying. They were so saccharine that they made me want to barf.

Ask yourself what an American soldier dying in Iraq or Afghanistan brings YOU today.

For a real historical example, eastern Europe was once a wonderful tolerant intellectually progressive place under the "repesive" Austro-Hungarian Empire. The locals threw off their rulers and since that time Eastern Europe has been a cess-pit of never ending ethnic slaughter.
