This is just another way for hipsters to sell themselves as hip and edgy, shocking their parents by calling themselves bisexual.
In reality, they're the same boring heterosexual people that their parents were.
"You parents out there should be aware that the young people have invented yet another alarming trend. I frankly wonder why we, as a society, even allow young people, inasmuch as all they ever seem to do is think up trends that we do not approve of, such as sarcasm, tattoos, and referring to pioneering rock-music geniuses of the '60s as 'old' just because they are dead or in comas." ~ Dave Barry

I'm surprised the "300 genders of craziness" crowd haven't already demanded the word "bisexual" be abandoned.

No affectation....
That's a great one. Probably the fifth time you've seen it here.
(Checked: Nope, only third. I love that line! Makes it easy to forgive my own silly dressings— knowing that we're all naked anyway.)

Swear to God, I read an article/post affirming precisely that just last night.
I'll never remember where... I was a power-scan, not a close reading, because it was obviously written with the exact presumption of sophistication under discussion here.

Speaking of "worshipped rather than parented"...
Since we tend to complain here, daily, of adults (not all of whom are young) with the attitudes of toddlers, it would only make sense for everyone to start focusing a lot more on - and complaining about - parents who allow anyone over four to behave as badly as a toddler.
It's not fair to expect teachers to do all the heavy lifting, such as expelling kids who have never been forced to stop biting, since chances are the parents will just get defensive and make the teachers' lives miserable. Such bad parenting has to be shamed (indirectly) by society at large and even directly, by the neighbors, if necessary.
After all, if violent or just plain selfish, narcissistic behavior doesn't get nipped in the bud as early as possible, by the time the child is a teen, it will be much harder for the parents to do anything about it, and it's nobody's job to reform people who aren't even minors anymore - unless you're getting PAID to reform that person, somehow.
(Which is why I cringe whenever I hear of anyone - real or fictional - who claims that it's the job of unpaid women to civilize unwilling men. No, it isn't - it's the job of a PARENT to civilize unwilling CHILDREN. Adults who behave badly only deserve to be shunned, not rescued.)

I mean, it was late. And dark. There may have been a glass of wine somewhere around here... I'll never remember, it was twelve whole hours ago. But anyway jd, your instincts are spot-on.

Ta-da! Found it. Compare and contrast...

Herzog:
I maligned Herzog unfairly in describing the piece. She's merely tracking these stupidities as they blossom, she's not watering the flowerbox. So to speak.

The woman is fighting the good fight. I shouldn't have ascribed the stupidity of her topic to the author.

And, speaking of narcissistic attitudes when it comes to dividing unpaid work (the LW deliberately doesn't make it clear who is who, in this situation):

I like the answer, and the top-rated commentators are very astute as well. As one said, in effect, the bottom line is that the six-figure earner not only is somehow "above" doing unpaid work, it's also "unfair" for him/her to PAY for it! Not a good marital sign.
