The schools to be renamed include schools named after Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Diane Feinstein. Yep.

With the renaming of schools, one thing I have not heard was, what the new names would be. Can't all be named Che G, or BLM or Floyd.

Now that the commission has issued its renaming list and historically literate people have had a chance to review their justifications, it's become plainly apparent that the criteria was not 'ties to racism and slavery'.

In fact, it appears that any justification they provided was concocted after the list was drawn up. Many of the attributions are simply incorrect, tying people to events they had no association with and even mistaking individuals for others with similar sounding names. And many others had no direct responsibility for the outcomes cited - rather they'd done something that the commission felt had contributed to the social factors that enabled that outcome.

Basically it looks like the actual criteria were - white, male, & 'not a hero of the left'. That's why they ended up with so many names when other large cities have only come up with a few from similar efforts.

I’ve read that biography of Washington. It never satisfied me. Recently read Chernow’s bio of him and it is much better. Separates the man and the myth of the man very capably.
