Here's a relatively new term, even if the phenomenon isn't so new. (Btw, plenty of people are unrepentant moochers without actually being near-homeless.)
"Are You Dating a Hobosexual?"
https://torontosun.com/life/sex-files/are-you-dating-a-hobosexual-6-ways-to-spot-one
Excerpt:
"...The hobosexual has also popped up in pop culture as of late. In 2014, 'Joe the Homeless Millennial' made headlines when he allowed a film crew to follow him, documenting his days spent panhandling in Manhattan and his nights spent seducing women, so that he’ll have a place to stay.
"More recently, the LA Times released the podcast Dirty John, which follows the true-crime story of Debra Newell, a successful interior designer who falls for John Meehan – the ultimate hobosexual – a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available and successful; only to have him worm his way into her heart and home, with deadly results..."

My wife's nephew might qualify for that designation. He's always moving in with his latest girlfriend; he's always between jobs, between apartments, between everything. And they take him in. He always lands on his -- well, her -- feet.
I think the reason some men never grow up is that they keep meeting women who don't expect them to.

Two thirds, if not more, of romance fiction is the special woman taming and domesticating the bad boy with her magic lady parts.
Truth is, men are like dogs. Women too actually. Feed them, scratch their heads, give them sex, they tend to hang around even if other aspects are less than stellar, until they get shoved forcibly off the gravy train.
Knew a tennis instructor. When he got older, his big goal was to land a woman with good health insurance. He had a bad scare with malignant melanoma. He found one such naive fool. It didn’t last long.

Maybe that's how the hobosexuals do it. They simply overwhelm her with adoration. To be that adored is intoxicating. Trouble comes when the hangover starts.

Remarkable deepfake.

Probably a bunch of third-wave feminists wished for men to be more feminine.

Now manifested in the idiotic Netflix series "Bridgerton," obscenely popular right now. Nothing but a live action Harlequin novel (or so described to me by my wife).

Don't discount the impact of broken homes, Conan. Most of the women dating men like this didn't have a father growing up. They don't have an example in their lives of what a 'good man' looks like and what he doesn't. With only the information given in schools and entertainment they have no context on what healthy looks like. As for the adoration thing, look at some actual relationships. That isn't really there. At least not any more than it can be found in almost any other relationship.
And to flip the genders, if a young man is talking about all the craft brewing or homemade spirits he is working on he is probably a mgtow. He has given up on women and replaced them with intoxicants. There are some oddly strong parallels to dark ages Christian monasteries.

I haven't seen Bridgerton, but that jibes with most of the reviews and comments I've read: A romance novel with just enough nudity and sex to keep the male viewers interested.
==========
I have. They start out with him an adoring suitor, listening intently to whatever she has to say, desperate to spend time with her, intent upon every facet of her life, and pushing for the same level of commitment from her. One of the six signs mentioned in the article is that "the relationship moves at lightning speed."
Once in the door, however, the relationship changes. He's no longer able to manifest the intensity he could when he was in need of her to let him move in with her. Likewise, she is no longer swept off her feet by such intensity, reminded daily of his faults as a boyfriend and provider as she washes the socks he regularly leaves on the floor.
Hmm. Interesting analogy.

I can see what you were referring to with the adoration comment now, Conan. For me that is just standard confidence game stuff. You get the same thing from any scam artist. Which makes sense in the context he is trying to scam his way into room and board. Things break down for me because there are lots of similar outcome relationships that don't start with that scam. And you have lots of people doing the same scam but not looking for a relationship. So I guess I define hobosexuals a bit broader than you or the article are doing.
Either way I still expect the woman in such a relationship didn't have a father growing up and is getting most of her dating advice from Harlequin.

Do young adult women -and teenagers for that matter- still read the Harlequin novels?
I read them and often wonder if their target audience is sorted by age and/or job occupation.
Sixclaws at February 26, 2021 3:54 PM
I don't know about that brand but yes romance novels are still the best seller and highest profitability book genre. Soap operas on TV are still popular and sell well too. It is the female version of porn. And just like porn I doubt it will ever go away. Women who get their dating and family concepts from such sources are just as ill informed and unreasonable as men who get theirs from internet porn.
(No don't show up with your dick in a box. That is just stupid. And putting your junk in a pizza is just asking to get burns in delicate places.)
There is also a recent trend I find personally annoying. I like sci fi and fantasy books. But if you go on amazon you will probably find the first 10 pages or so in that category are thinly veiled romance novels. And I mean really thinly veiled. I.e. shirtless muscle guy with busty girl on the cover like you see on almost all bodice ripper novels. Why is is a fantasy novel? Oh my, she has a glowing wand stuck in her sash. That makes it fantasy now right? RIGHT!!!
Even if you go to a physical store you will see the trend where romance novels are trying to take over the sci fi/fantasy shelves. For better or for worse the profitability of sci fi and fantasy have gone through the floor. With self publishing there are lots of great novels in that category on the internet for free. So people aren't willing to spend the money they used to with cheaper high quality alternatives available. That most book award groups in the category have gone stupidly woke isn't helping. Personally if I see the little gold stamp thing I know I can find a better story somewhere else. Author skin color and dating habits aren't a factor for me when looking for something to read. And that is all those awards signify these days.

So, Ben, maybe you're the kind of heartless bastard who says, because she's so grievously wounded, that she deserves to be left behind for torment and brutality by those animal savages.
Well, Mister, I AM NOT!!! ! !!
I say her life can still have meaning!!
