Will Aztec cannibalism be incorporated into the school meal plan? Will there be Aztec-style human sacrifice at school assemblies?
— Amy Alkon (@amyalkon) March 11, 2021
And hmm...might these Aztec practices count as "forms of power & oppression," though brown people were behind them? (Kinda screws up the narrative!) https://t.co/neKx5XgzpP

Whenever someone mentions I should be reverent of, not just appreciate, aboriginal Americans, I say, "OK. Which warlike savages who took prisoners into slavery do we revere today?"
This is somehow not appreciated. Nor is pointing out that "Apache" is the Hopi word for, "enemy", and that Geronimo was passed over for Chief of the Apaches because he was considered too violent.
Too violent. To lead Apaches.
We are to embrace only the politically-correct fantasy American Indian, who sat peacefully at a fire in front of a wigwam, considering how best to preserve the environment, and who never quarrelled with anyone.
This casting about for meaning in the absence of accomplishment is a symptom of a mental illness, not something to encourage.

California’s proposed Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum urges students to chant to Aztec gods
*reads first amendment*
Doesn't that run afoul of the Establishment clause?

Will the chanting students be sent to the classroom next door to kidnap victims, bring them to their own classroom, and cut out their hearts with stone knives while the victims are still alive?
Keep in mind the reason that the local tribes joined with Hernán Cortés and his expedition in conquering the Aztecs was that the weaker tribes were tired of being kidnapped and killed by the more powerful Aztecs. Cortés, with his small expedition could never have conquered the Aztec Empire on his own.

Reminds me, in a way, of how New Amsterdam became New York because the Dutch hated Peter Stuyvesant and refused to back him up when the English threatened to raze the tiny town.

Ever since the wee times, I've worried about becoming the sort of goofy old coot who grumbled that the kids were undisciplined, unread, untraveled trend-bots with no insight into the forces of doggedness, compromise and conflict which make civilization work.
And now, as actual coot-hood continues its relentless approach, it's as if fate is courteously sheltering me behind a bundle of crises demonstrating that the kids really are undisciplined, unread, untraveled trend-bots with no insight into the forces of doggedness, compromise and conflict which make civilization work.

Slapstick exaggeration in search of destiny's boundary is starting to seem risky. This joke is four years old, but I bet he wouldn't tell it today.

So is simplistic admiration of indigenous peoples done as a means of condemning modernity.

Crid, the video starts in the middle. Did you mean the omission of the word "slavery"? If not, which joke?

No, the part about acting out the trade route for candy. It's not a one-liner, but it's what came to mind when Coney talked about simulated human sacrifice.
Wokies want the kids to really feel it, knowutimean? …To really feel it.
'Cause that'll learn 'em.
