It's Backwards Day For Bigotry -- Endlessly
Joy Reid is a bully.
Erika Sanzi writes at Substack of one of the still-sane people out there -- who nasty Joy Reid has a go at:
A mother speaks at what I assume is a school board meeting (or something like it) and makes a statement with which the vast majority of Americans, regardless of race, would agree."Just because I do not want critical race theory taught to my children in school does not mean I'm a racist, dammit."
"Actually it does," quips Reid, laughing.
Reid's decision to play video footage on her national platform of a private citizen she has never met, and label her a racist, is vile.
I can already imagine people looking at this mom, whose life we know nothing about, and thinking she's just another "Karen," the modern day slur for white women who have opinions. It certainly started out to describe white women who sees themselves as "the policewomen of all human behavior" and call the cops on black men who birdwatch in Central Park. Predictably, it has morphed into a lazy way of describing those of us who are white and female and have something to say that they don't like. (One of my sons has artfully adapted it to use on me whenever I tell him "no.")
I did not hear this mother ask that her children not learn about history. Or slavery. Or Frederick Douglass. Or Jim Crow. Or lynching. Or the Tulsa Massacre. I did not hear her say anything to indicate that she holds a single racist view or sees any of her fellow humans as "less than" based on their race or any other immutable trait. I see a concerned mom. And there are countless moms (and dads!) just like her who are black, brown, white, Asian and biracial who would stand right by her side and say the same the exact same thing.
...Reasonable people can and will disagree about what critical race theory is and whether or not it belongs anywhere near a K12 classroom. These are worthy and needed debates to have if and when they are based on the merits of the argument and not laced with ad hominem attacks, mischaracterizations of one another's views and constant shifting of definitions.
I have stood at the microphone of school committee meetings and public hearings many times over the past decade. If I were as concerned as the mom in the video is right now about my own children's school, I'd be doing exactly what she is doing. I hear from parents, grandparents and teachers every day across all demographics who feel exactly the same way she does. They deserve to be heard and respected, as does she.
Unfortunately, treating people you disagree with with respect I guess makes for less "ha-ha-Karen!-taining" TV.
And as a person who despises racism, I really despise the use of "Karen." It only "passes" now because publicly expressing hate for white people has become a form of virtue-signaling.
As I see it: If you don't want to be slurred for whatever group you're in -- and if you are for the MLK way as opposed to the trendy racist "anti-racism" of the present -- maybe don't use the racist "Karen."

"Karen" is not a racial term, as least as I use it and have seen it used.
A "Karen" is anyone who scolds or calls authority on someone for no, or trivial reasons. For instance, "Branch Covidians" who yell at you for not wearing a mask are Karens.

As pointed out in the article, it now is also used any time an older white woman says anything someone doesn't like. It's the new "hag"

yes ~ Karen has morphed into an all-purpose pejorative. It's also really shitty to use a proper name as a slur - there are people who are actually named Karen!
FWIW Joy Reid is an awful person in real life. I know people who've worked in production roles on The
View. She's the last person who should be accusing anyone of bigotry.

I have known a few guys named “Dick” as well. I guess men don’t count.

These sorts keep insisting on grouping people according to their tribes. Boy, are they going to be surprised when white people behave in a tribal manner as well.
The rot at Disney is real, and deep. Have to scroll down a bit to find this, but Disney suggests “find and join a local ‘white space.’” Yeah, that's gonna work out well.
I guess the new slogan will be "separate but equity".

Here's to hoping Joy Reid has to spend a significant amount of her income on private personal security details for the rest of her life. And never feels safe living in the United States again.

IME? She's likely to sleep perfectly well with zero worries whatsoever.
Otherwise people like her and her ilk would have been out of a job a long, long, long time ago.

Not only did MLK talk about getting rid of white supremacy; he also warned against black supremacy. Perhaps, not as often as he spoke for America to live up to its dream of all men created equal; but, nonetheless he did condemn black supremacy in a couple of his speeches.
So, it is not only too bad that many didn't learn his "judge by the content of their character and not their skin color" but they are also supporting black supremacy by engaging in anti-white actions.

Poor Dicks. That really is awful.

Joy Reid is more than a bully. She is a miserable, self-righteous, smug, stupid, vicious bitch whose voice and manner are beyond grating (think wood rasp used on a nipple). Her race has nothing to do with it, btw.

The problem with the woke, is that they do not see their views as "values" or "opinions" but as facts. They think it is a fact that systemic racism exists, that all white people are racist, that objecting to being so designated is white fragility, and so on. They do not recognize conservative views on marriage, patriotism, abortion, rewarding hard work, etc as valid views but simply as crazy ravings.

Sorry, 'Karen' has too much power to resist. It's a stereotype with a basis in fact.
