Ideology before lives -- the position of the Oakland City Council.
This gave me chills.

Tamney from FreedomWorks got an oped published at the WSJ saying the GOP should love reinstating the salt deduction. What a great way to lose your voting base.

Stealing this item wholesale (less supporting links) from Ellis's outstanding newsletter, News Items:
NI costs a couple pennies, but it's a fantastic survey of daily world events, concise but richly-linked.
Much better for blood pressure than the NYT.

"...both ships remained docked at Odessa, Ukraine, as confirmed by a live web cam feed."
Heh. Like the "live" can't be hacked?
More to the point: why would a WARSHIP appear at all on a tracker when it is in combat status? Answer: it won't.

It probably can't, when it's military IT types doing forensic intel. This wasn't a teenager glancing at parking lot cam between intense sessions of Tik Tok on his Samsung.

Tuesday lunchtime boredom. (Roast beef in good air conditioning, and thanks for asking.)
AHA! Let's dunk on the Amish!!
The shortest path to herd immunity is vaccination. These people are putting their "faith" in free-riding, because they're scared of needles… As are all too many of the 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩.

I can see only two solutions. One would be for Republicans to start running candidates for city council in all the jurisdictions that are doing this.
The other would be for governors, or a future Republican president, to send in national guard troops.
In both cases, Democrats are proving that they are not merely unable but unwilling to protect our rights against these thugs. Or against terrorists such as BLM and Antifa, who are still rioting while Democrats cheer them on. (At least until they get to their homes.)
The government must do its job or we must make them. By war if necessary.

Well, *I* certainly didn't assume that...
After all, anyone knows that no Westerner would want to live there, regardless of whatever "benefits" may exist.* So it's no surprise to me that they didn't manage to hold off the pandemic.
*Offhand, the only benefit I ever heard of was that if you put down - and forget - some valuable item on the street, it will still be there two days later, when you come back for it. I don't know if that's true, but you'd think someone would just take it to the police station, so it wouldn't get damaged by the weather or what have you.

Lenona, they are afraid of being accused of theft. If you touch it you get punished, possibly killed.
Ben at June 30, 2021 8:43 AM
(Was being facetious, and agree with Ben re: Norks.)
Crid at June 30, 2021 4:51 PM
Ben, what I meant was, why don't the POLICE tell the citizens to bring it to the station?
Lenona at July 1, 2021 10:24 AM
Because the POLICE don't want to explain to envious superiors how this unbelievably expensive and desirable luxury item (scarf; Android tablet; umbrella; camera) came into their possession.
Look, something like 40% of Norks are meth addicts, because they don't get enough food, but everything still needs to get done. And being in a good mood when it does is not important. They're twitchy when interacting with anyone, but especially authorities and foreigners.
I pulled that number out of my backside. It might be 20%. It might be 8%. Would you be meaningfully less appalled?
Ben understands that NK society is endlessly threatening in ways to which Westerners can't relate (, man).
