Dirty little secret. Teachers and administrators are particularly dumb on average, having come up through a teacher certification system which has a very low requirements and attracts people that can’t make it in college with a legitimate major.

It's hard to get a big-picture view of how this network is built, and the lightningmaps.org page doesn't help much, either.

Is this an alliance for which a guy with a little bandwidth could take part? If its a little detector that gets put on the roof or something to help collect data? (I'm already running a BTC node, it could run on the same machine.)

This is one of those things where even if the data collection and real-time reporting is shitty right now, by 2026 it will be improved and perfect.

In the meantime, seeing this as a hobbyist effort, at least partially, makes it even sweeter.

Kind of a funny story, but when my nephew was little, he had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Rosie.

Anyhow, apparently, my nephew saw the movie "101 Dalmatians" and became enamored with Dalmatian puppies.

So, after the movie, he went home and sternly told Rosie that she was expected to have a whole litter of Dalmatian puppies for him to play with . . . by tomorrow.

As if my nephew's imperious demand weren't already sufficiently unreasonable, Rosie was spayed.
