Linksanity
If you have a company that serves customers partly by phone, for god's sake, listen to the hold music for the amount of time a customer would. Does it make you feel somewhat homicidal? Because that's what it does to your customers! Surely not the effect you are intending!

This was mentioned the other day, but what exactly is the advantage of "jabs" over "shots"?
It's a case of, y'know, 'We already *have* a word for that.'

Hold music?
May I recommend Arthur Brown's "Fire"?
Or Rebecca Black's "Friday"?
Heh.

A friend who works civic telecom in NYC was amused by this.

It's critically important that we invest in clean, renewable energy resources

The "Copium" meme would be perfect to post right now:

Amy, you hit one of my buttons with this one.
How about a law categorically banning all those "press 1 to wait on hold for an hour" machines? And let's find a way to use the machines themselves as punishment for having one!
The worst offender I've encountered so far was AT&T. I had a tech issue with their broadband service, but (via cell phone) it took two days to get past the hold-machine that guards their support number and make it connect me to a human being. What finally worked was when I started threatening to recycle the damn thing for beer cans.

Well.. It's a private institution and they can do whatever they want to:

Well, at least so long as the music is playing, you know you haven't been cut off.
(I realize that normally, when you DO get cut off, it's only a matter of seconds before the atonal whistle blows and the recording begins that says "if you'd like to make a call...etc.")
But, anything can happen - or not happen.

Please add a phone menu option of waiting without your hold music.
And if you want to hold yourself accountable (god forbid), add a timer that lets the caller know how long they've been on hold.

@Crid: "what exactly is the advantage of "jabs" over "shots"?"
"Jabs" is just British for "shots". We started 400 years ago with a common language (of many dialects, but with the dominant one frozen in Shakespeare and the King James Bible). It's evolved quite a lot since then, with the original regional dialects tending to converge - but towards somewhat different British and American "standard" dialects, not to mention the interestingly different Australian dialect and the nearly incomprehensibly different Indian-Pakistani and West Indies forms of English.
