• South Florida isn't where American government usually turns for moral instruction, but here we are.
• An explanation for the repugnant Stewart/Colbert—
These people aren't decent, they're socially needy. We knew this.

If someone who knows can give a 1.5-sentence-long explanation of what's going on with Britney Spears in headlines that would be great. If no one has the time, I totally understand. Okay thanks

Time = weird:
• I remember this day; was visiting a cousin in Ohio. You could really feel the difference! (Note: That's bullshit… No living organism could feel the difference.) The Staple Singers were all over the radio.
• This too, it was the day ending a week at camp. Carole King was all over the radio.

Wiki says the Staples took the introduction to their hit record from this. Who knew there was reggae in 1969?

Rap music in China is deployed as propaganda.

Up 'til the '60s, reggae had been a mostly-Jamaican music and dance trend. By the late '60s, Bob Marley was getting regular radio play in UK and reggae made its way around the world from there.
Fun Fact 1: It wasn't called reggae until Toots and Maytals released "Do the Reggay" in 1968.
Fun Fact 2: Blondie's reggae-sounding hit, "The Tide is High," was actually a cover of an early reggae song by John Holt. The song was later recorded to a ska beat by The Paragons.

The singer has never asked the court to end the conservatorship entirely, though she has emphasized in documents that she reserves the right to do so at any time. It was put in place as she underwent a mental health crisis in 2008. She has credited it with saving her from financial ruin and keeping her a top flight pop star.
Her father and his attorneys have emphasized that she and her fortune, which court records put at more than $50 million, remain vulnerable to fraud and manipulation. Under the law, the burden would be on Spears to prove she is competent to be released and free to make her own choices.

Thank you Chang!
And thank you Conan. I saw T&tM open for the Who on November 30 1975, and thought (through a haze of weed, for '75 was a galactically good year), "Whoever likes this kind of music is really enjoying this part! Probably! Soon, the Who will perform a concert here!" There was no suspicion that this was going to be a trend to envelope so much of pop music, so often fruitlessly.

> if the puck were 3-5x bigger
Cosh had a series of tweets about this years ago: Canadians don't believe Americans when we say we don't know where the puck is. Canadians have been watching TV sets closely between ages four to seven, and the insight seeps into their souls.
Not down here, not in our neighborhood. But it's not just that we can't track the puck; we see no special reason for tracking the puck.

American liberty… Don't mouth off about it, just live your dream.

"But it's not just that we can't track the puck; we see no special reason for tracking the puck."
The basics are so mysterious to Americans that I have seen a "Karen" go off at the top of her lungs about her right to sit where she paid to sit - when the ushers were stopping traffic because the puck was in play. "I could be seriously hurt? You're a liar! Let me SIT DOWN!!"
