Swift often seems pompous and grandiose in her insistence that professional musicianship needs extraordinary compensation, a shaky proposition when so many amateurs are making sensational recordings with laptops and naive musical enthusiasm. Just seeing her cited in the piece compels me to point out that if she dropped out of sight for six weeks, she'd be replaced (both as a celebrity and a musical presence) by one or several people just as talented, and probably working for a lot less money… And the world would steam along nicely, missing her contributions not at all.
