It's interesting that this time around the outrage is against the Taliban or ISIS or Al Queda. Yet this time around there is an almost willful stepping around or ignoring of the religion behind those organizations. No media is going to outright say it - Islam.

Afghanistan is the worst of the Islamic countries now is how it enacts its rules. Yet other countries from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia that have varying degrees of Islamic rules and some that can be consider still extreme are downplayed.

Ignore religion at peril.

It's already clear to anyone with eyes in their heads many in the "progressive" Left nurture poorly concealed megalomaniac tendencies. They dream of wielding power over others like all puritans and fundamentalists.

So they see Islam - but when they see it, they see themselves "speaking truth to power" or "sticking it to The Man".

One interesting permutation of this is the feminist who decries white male power but dreams of being dominated by a 3rd world brute, and is blind to the suffering of Islamic women. The unmarried bien-pensant European woman who thinks headscarves are cool and winds up murdered by her "asian" immigrant boyfriend has entered the cast of stock characters in European news reporting.

What are you complaining about?

• That nation is sovereign. It gets to run itself as it pleases, thereby earning its future.
• You (plural) voted for the Administration that ordered the abandonment of these people, just as you voted for Hillary, who took money from governments who kill gays, because the Orange Man might be mean to them and words hurt, yes they do.

I've had several conversations with people on the left and their contradictory views of Islam.
Some is due to the media but some is due to interactions with Muslims in America. The thing they don't realize is many Muslims in America are not typical. They are the extremes who escaped or left the Muslim countries because they were not typical.
For example was trying to get across the Muslim hatred of gays, the other person denied it since she knew 2 openly gay Muslims. But she would not accept that that was the reason they had left Saudi Arabia and moved to America, even when one of her gay friends agreed that that was why his family left.
The other factor is when you are outnumbered you tend to either act like others or shut up.
It also is why 2nd generation immigrants have many problems. 2 fold reasons. 1. They are more likely to be more typical Muslims than their parents were. or 2. If they aren't they don't deep down realize there were reasons why their parents left.

My grandmother always liked to say it took 3 generations to successfully integrate.

The first generation is happy to be there, happy they got out of a shitty situation.

Second generation doesn't remember the shitty situation, they just realize they don't quite fit in the new place.

Third generation's been there long enough that they do fit in.

Just got off doing a couple weeks of substitute teaching. 2 villages, a big one and a small one. Big one had lots of immigrant children, mostly but not only from other European countries. Small one had some but was mostly kids of local farmers. There was a decided difference in behavior and grades. Noticed it last year as well when I had a gig in those two villages.

I'm not sure what the solution is... I'm kind of on team "Limit the people you let in but really put in the resources to integrate them", but of course that makes me simultaneously a psycho fascist and a pinko commie so it would never fly.
