Social Media Resurrects The Moral Majority
Not many decades ago, it was the right that finger wagged about rock lyrics and nudity. If there are Republicans employed at social media companies now, I bet they're largely underground -- like the hidden Spanish Jews, the Maranos, practicing in secret.
The Guardian's Elle Hunt reports that social media platforms are shutting down posts of famous works of art, lest -- gasp! -- a painted areola shows up on their site, in violation of their (to-me) puritannical rules.
More than a century after the artists of the Vienna Secession declared "to every age its art; to art its freedom", the Austrian capital has found a new site for artistic expression free from censorship: the adults-only platform OnlyFans.Vienna's tourism board has started an account on OnlyFans - the only social network that permits depictions of nudity - in protest against platforms' ongoing censorship of its art museums and galleries.
In July, the Albertina Museum's new TikTok account was suspended and then blocked for showing works by the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki that showed an obscured female breast, forcing the museum to start a new account. This followed a similar incident in 2019, when Instagram ruled that a painting by Peter Paul Rubens violated the platform's community standards which prohibit any depictions of nudity - even those that are "artistic or creative in nature".
In 2018, the Natural History Museum's photograph of the 25,000-year-old Venus of Willendorf figurine was deemed pornographic by Facebook and removed from the platform.
The Leopold Museum has likewise struggled to promote its collection of nudes by the expressionist Egon Schiele, with advertising regulators in Germany, the UK and US refusing to show them in a city tourism campaign in 2018. (The tourist board successfully resubmitted the posters with banners obscuring the bare bodies reading: "Sorry - 100 years old but still too daring today.")
...These works and more are now on full display, safe from the threat of censorship, on Vienna's OnlyFans profile - and only teased from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Helena Hartlauer, a Vienna tourist board spokesperson, said the city and its cultural institutions had been finding it "almost impossible" to use nude artworks in promotional materials. Some works in the Albertina's current exhibition, by the Italian portrait artist Amedeo Modigliani, are too explicit to promote it, she said.
"Of course you can work without that, but these artworks are crucial and important to Vienna - when you think of the self-portrait by Schiele from 1910, it's one of the most iconic artworks. If they cannot be used on a communications tool as strong as social media, it's unfair and frustrating. That's why we thought [of OnlyFans]: finally, a way to show these things."
The first subscribers to "Vienna's 18+ content" on OnlyFans will receive either a Vienna City Card or an admission ticket to see one of the artworks in person.
How fucking ridiculous.

I think we have a Baptist bootlegger coalition operating world wide. One side are the Muslims and all the do gooders and political ass kissers afraid of offending Islam.
On the other side primarily in the US is the largely government funded child porn panic and helicopter parents and school officials panicking about 16 and 17 year old girls wanting and getting sex from older guys.
The internet blew the doors off the old mail order porn mags and movie industry. Nobody is sure anymore what reasonable laws and restrictions are,

There are a couple of different things you are mixing Isab.
On Amy's topic about social media, who owns social media? How do they get paid? These are advertising companies. They are essentially trying to fill the same advertising niche as news papers used to. They want a product that attracts people so they can sell advertising space along side that product. As such they've become very puritanical. They don't want to pay for content (just another cost for them) but they don't want to drive anyone away from their content. And sex makes a lot of people feel icky. Especially when presented in the wrong way. So such advertising companies eliminate most sex related content. It only harms their business model.
In that same vein they eliminate 'conservative' or 'right-wing' content. Liberals are far more likely to complain and far more likely to boycott. So content they don't like is a net negative for advertisers, hence it has to go.
There is a separate puritanical thing going on in the Democrat party that isn't really related to the advertisers. I'm not sure what is going on there. Both Obama and Biden have abused banking laws to oppose groups they don't like. For example gun stores. But they are also very opposed to pornography in any shape or form. That is why OnlyFans banned 18+ stuff for a bit. They were notified if they kept it they would loose access to banking services due to the president's request.

Not surprising at all considering the amount of goblinas employed in Silicon Valley who happen to be so hideous both on the inside and the outside to the point that they can't even compete against a prehistoric statue.

@Ben,
I'm noticing an interesting trend in your generation:
The dads turn into rabid anti-sex SJWs once their daughters hit puberty, these guys are suddenly very offended to see pretty ladies -fictional or real- wearing sexy clothing in everything.
Meanwhile, the moms with their boys coming of age are pushing in the opposite direction. They go after anyone who dares libel their kids for liking a drawing of a pretty lady.

BTW, nitpick. It's "Marrano" with a double "R."

I looked up Venus of Willendorf. It looks like Lizzo:

"Nobody is sure anymore what reasonable laws and restrictions are,..."
Were they ever? Nobody could define pornography to be codified, and today penalties vary - absurdly so. Yeah, your high-school senior is a felon the day he turns 18, mostly because parents think they can and should call the police because they cannot be parents, and they are truly deluded about the law.
The AG under Reagan was asked to determine a link between crime and pornography and couldn't. It's just too entertaining, though nobody can admit that.
Photography? Did Sinead O'Connor kill the Pope tearing his picture in half? I suggest that the modern snowflake will insist that she did, because worrrds hurrrt, Daddy - so of course a photograph of someone by themselves, in any scene, is criminally possessed by anyone else.
To my amusement a popular test ("12 or 20?") illustrating the lengths girls will go to to appear older and experienced no longer appears online - but you can find where how confusion gets into court.
So then we have the #metoo people, apparently wishing to do what they want and blame others - unwise at any time.

Interesting observation Six. I've haven't seen that, but there are huge regional and group differences. One part may be that my generation largely grew up without fathers. And our kids are following in our footsteps.
Personally having kids in elementary I'm a bit surprised by all the men picking up and dropping off kids at the school. Most ride the bus, a smaller group drive, so actual walkers are the smallest group. But that is the only one I can physically see. Of that group about 1/3 are fathers or grandfathers. When I was in elementary it was more like 5% or less.
Oh, and if it is a twitter thing for these rabid SJW dads I'm not surprised. Twitter really isn't representative. You are just seeing the loud freakout minority. A percentage of fathers have always done that. It may just be that my generation is computer literate so now they get to freak out on a global stage.
Ben at October 24, 2021 8:11 AM
Oh, no, not a twitter thing. Seems like something that's been spreading within the English-speaking part of tech in general.
Sixclaws at October 24, 2021 9:28 AM
Interesting. As I said I haven't come across it. But I'm not really in tech. I'm in oil. While I may design circuit boards and write code the culture is completely different.
I have seen the California types do 180s once they have kids. But that is an at birth thing and not a puberty thing. Before having kids they are all 'yay pedos' and after they are all 'death to the pedos'. A case where you really have to have kids and have the responsibility for those kids for them to understand.
Maybe it is the same thing just later? I don't know. Those types do tend to swing from crazy to crazy.

"One part may be that my generation largely grew up without fathers."
Really? That seems to be a regional and ethnic thing, not universal. Just chart the crime rate, which closely follows single motherhood, even overseas. Note carefully that the indication is not the cause.
Radwaste at October 24, 2021 5:23 PM
You may be onto something Ben, I've seen too many CompSci guys transform into Obama and his "Dear Colleague" letter once they notice their daughters start to grow tits.

So true. Nancy Reagan, for instance.

Nope Rad. For over 40 years 1/3 of kids have grown up in a single mother home. And about another 1/3 have grown up without their birth father. Only about 1/5 in my entire generation graduated high school with an intact family unit.
60 years ago you would be right, but things have changed since then.

No, Lizzo's boobs are much smaller than that Venus.
She looks nice in this dress...
