I went to a medical lab today for a routine test. The lab is affiliated with a major medical provider here and is in their medical office building.

The security guard stopped me at the door and asked me two questions about COVID: if I have COVID symptoms or if I’ve been in contact with someone who has COVID. With a “no” to both those questions, she gave me a checkmark sticker and told me to wear it to indicate that I cleared the screening.

No thermometer. No nurse. Just a security guard with a clipboard and a roll of stickers. That's some high-tech medical screening you've got there, guys; you know, in your medical lab. No wonder we have people pushing for vaccine mandates.

There honestly isn't a need for even that level of screening, Conan. It isn't surprising the people most informed about medicine only require a fig leaf defence.

Are you over 50 or otherwise in poor health? Then you should get vaccinated. Otherwise don't worry too much.

Which is subtly wrong. The vaccine isn't HIV. That doesn't rule out its producing the same effect.

They have to do this, Conan. If they don't the local government will shut them down. Look at restaurants. You were supposed to wear a mask until you were seated. Somehow covid stops in the seated position? Complete nonsense. My mom went to a dentist around here. She and the dentist were the only people allowed in the office at a time. Still had to wear a mask until you were in the chair. She asked him about that and his reply was simple. 'I don't want to be shut down.' All it would take is one cop randomly poking his head in the door and his business would be closed.

Same with your case. They are required by government to screen for covid. Nothing said what that screening had to look like. So do the cheapest thing that could comply with the law.
