Anyway you look at it, the whole thing is just so sad- all the bitterness and fighting in the family included. To me, it's a prime example of why you should marry someone your family likes, because when you're in a vegetative state, you don't want them all to have to fight it out like this.

What if you're gay, and you can't get married? What then? Then your partner has no rights. How right is that? As long as this country maintains this yahoo-like prejudice against allowing gay marriage (not that I'm for marriage at all), every gay partnership should have an attorney draw up an agreement spelling out rights for the partners. France has the PACs -- a registered partner agreement for gays and straights (like me) who are in a committed partnership but don't believe in marriage. (I believe marriage exists, I just don't believe it makes sense to pledge to be with somebody for life. I'm for committing to somebody for as long as the relationship is enriching the lives of both people in it. After that, wave goodbye and find somebody else. It's not sad. It's just life. Things die. Even love.)
