Ask Auntie Lena
Lena, best friend of The Advice Goddess, recommends "Democracy Now!" host Amy Goodman's new book, The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media that Love Them. Apparently, Goodman is despised left and right:
(from the book description) Bill Clinton called her, "Hostile, combative, and even disrespectful." Newt Gingrich told her that it was because of "people like you" that he warned his mother not to speak to reporters. The New York Times says she's a "reporter who's not easy-listening." The Indonesian military banned her, calling her a "threat to national security."
I haven't read the book yet, but hearing a reporter referred to like that is like hearing the other side in a negotiation whine that they hate your lawyer.

Went over to check out this book through the link. Seems like heady, righteous reporting of what is. Love seeing the covers ripped off the scam mongers no matter what side of the fence they're on. Now that they've klieglighted the local powerdaddies, sure hope they whip their scope around at a few of the dirties in the other corners of the world. Wouldn't it be great to see who's really raking in the filthy lucre on the backs of human misery all around this world? Great start, Goodmans, hope you don't stop here. Just cleaning up our own neighborhood isn't enough. Kind of like the guy who sees the shadow of the grim reaper for the first time and starts with the weights, the lo-carbs, the running, cuts the cigs; and then gets euthanized on the 405 by a Peterbilt in the morning fog on the way to work. Having the cleanest sandbox on the playground is good, but it also becomes quite the target for those mired in surrounding mucked up sandboxes. Target having several connotations, of course. Jealous, zealous hatred comes to mind as one targeted response. Sneaking in the back door for the delicious treats another.

If you don't have time to read the book, check out Democracy Now on KPFK at 9 AM, Monday through Friday (or the transcripts on www.democracynow.org). Goodman is relentless. It was a great pleasure to hear her lay into Carol Mosley-Braun a few months ago about her oil-soaked friends in Nigeria. Humiliated politicians, live on the airwaves. THAT'S entertainment!
