A May-December Relationship

Gregg thinks the pickup is a 1950 Ford F-1 fender-side. The little car is an "R" Car, an EV (electric vehicle). It almost makes my dinky little eco-mobile look like a Hummer by comparison!

That could be a '50 or a '51. Back then all Ford pick-ups had fender flairs (AKA "stepside"), the smooth or fleetsides came later. Your only alternatives were flatbed, stakebed or panel truck.
The all-electric car is probably a (ahem) non-starter in the US. On the other hand, I predict that by 2010 probably 50% of the cars on the road will be hybrids. Ford has licensed Toyota's hybrid technology and is now selling their small SUV Escape with a hybrid engine. Look for the other manufacturers to follow with that or with Honda's tech.
