There's No Such Thing As "Progressive" Humor
I'll take the "pollution" of actually funny guys like Greg Gutfeld over whiny weenies like David O. Russell any day.

Whaaa...? No such thing as progressive humor?
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
This Modern World
Bill Maher
Alicublog
That's a start anyway. In David O. Russell's defense....THREE KINGS. Awesome movie, and the definitive one about Iraq War I. Also I HEART HUCKABEES. Make movies that cool, and I'll allow for some whininess.

> Awesome movie,
Ehhh. One and a half, two stars. Remember the music, the editing, the perfomances by the women? Me neither.
> the definitive one about Iraq War I.
Maybe by default. Name three others.
I've never heard of Alicublog, but all these things are entertainment vessels... That's the gig. When there's a choice between extracting a chuckle or adding a sense of proportion, these sources are in business of telling a joke. They're good mechanical smartasses, but they're still machines.

The thing is, too many people on the left are humorless and have the hurt feelings of a boogery-nosed seventh grader whenever somebody pokes fun of them.

Abso-lutely. Prager (who we'll agree takes himself too seriously) once said that liberal cant takes the place of religion in many lefty hearts. (He was talking about Norman Lear's wife, who'd recently died rich, liberal, alone, and miserable.) And as we all know, you're not supposed to make fun of God in church. Ever! And you're not supposed to express "reactionary" thoughts at Huffpo.
I totally heart Gutfeld.

I enjoy the way Gutfeld gets the self-serious lefties all worked up. Oh, and if you've never done so, go to Gutfeld's page on HuffPuff and click on "Bio."
I thought Three Kings was totally dumb, and turned it off after about a half hour. Perhaps I missed something. I tend to do this when nothing about the characters grabs or interests me. Haven't seen anything else by Russel.
I think that humorlessness tends to come from fundamentalist thinking of just about any stripe - liberal, conservative, religious... People who believe that they are exactly right lack of the fundamental requirements of humor, the ability to recognize their own foolishness.

And don't miss The Daily Gut!

I agree but wonder if there's a little finer point we can put on it. Fundies think the truth is so plain and the righteousness so obvious that nothing is ever in play, even for a rhetorical second. It's not even foolishness that jokers want us to acknowledge, it's just that sometimes things are misperceived. Fundies can't admit that.

Treach emailed me to say the sigs on the thing are the funniest part:

Yup. Well said.
