She will start drinking at 10. Have a full blown eating disorder at 12 once her body starts to change. She will then have sex with dozens of men before she's 20 in an attempt to gain their approval b/c she never felt truly valued as a person. She will be emotionally dependent on her manipulative, can't-be-pleased c-u-n-t of a mother.

Maybe I'm just being harsh, unfairly judgmental and jumping to all the wrong conclusions about this little girl's life. Maybe she likes it all. Unfortunately, I'm probably not too far off.

Nothing makes me sicker to my stomach than to see this shit. I would NEVER EVER exploit my daughters like this. Gretchen, I think you are right on the money. How the hell can anyone think this "cute"? Her parents deaths are probably the best thing that ever happened to this girl -- if they didn't do too much damage beforehand. And that boy at the bottom of the link? All it brings to mind is NAMBLA. Their eyes do say it all. You can see the tears being held back and the fright and bewilderment. This should be considered child abuse. Pageants for kids should just be done away with all together. I think we can live without beautiful baby contests. The price paid for them is too high.

Let the kids be kids! They'll have plenty of time to dress up like adults when they become adults. Why do you have to be licensed to own a dog but not to have children...10,000 years ago parents like this more than likely would have been killed and eaten by bears. To mothers that do this, GET A JOB; you are causing more damage by "being there" for them then you would be if you worked! Your chief responsibility as a parent is to "keep your daughters off the stripper pole". AAAAHHHHHH! More chlorine in the gene pool!

How can these mothers not see that the point of all this makeup and clothes is to make females sexually attractive to males? This is fine for adult females, but NOT for 5 year olds.

Let me repeat my goal as a parent in this regard: to see that my daughter establishes a relationship she can grow into; to choose a companion who is alike in being funny and smart, and who shares some common interests; who will not become a "servant" or try to turn her into one.

In this, I and my ex have been successful. She's now 25 and nobody can lie to her. She's sharp enough that I have actually seen a server run into a pole in a restaurant as she took her hair down (don't worry - she didn't shake out any fleas). She's making her own way, and I'm continuously delighted at that.

That was the idea since she was very young. She has always been a person, not a thing. Your cutie is adorable enough. Let people see that and marvel at the goddess she can become, not the whore.

As I told some girls in Michigan who struck up a conversation with me, and then revealed that they wanted to enter "America's Top Model": Looks fade. Before long, you're not beautiful and dumb, just dumb. And the most beautiful women I know are yes, people who are physically attractive, but those who also have something to them as far as brains, knowledge, and character go.

That picture is just plain disturbing. I lowe little girls at that age. They are just sweet and cuddly and innocent. They are also vulnerable. The picture reminds me of the whole Jon Benet Ramsey murder story. When they played those videos of those little five and six year olds dressed up like playboy models, that was a shock to me, I didn't know they did anything like that. They are children, they should all be allowed to have their childhood.

It is hard enough to raise a daughter with a positive body image. So not only are they pimping out their children, they are stomping on their self worth. I am pretty confident, but I wouldn't be very comfortable standing up in a room of my peers and getting ranked on my looks, imagine how that must be for a child, when everything seems bigger and more important.

I tell my daughter(s) that the most beautiful woman in the room is the one that is smiling.

I think this is worse than the beauty contest tarted up look. Scroll down for some of the lovely ways you can have your child photoshopped. "Eyes replaced." Who wants a photo of their child with their freaking eyes replaced. How sick and creepy is that? (Quite, in my book). On the bright side, the "Children turning into evil dolls" concept could make for a good/bad low-rent paranoid horror film.

One of my favourite photos (which I won't post) is my daughter at about that age. Missing front teeth, hair a mess, wearing an anorak over pajamas and bare feet, standing in the garden with absolute joy and delight shining out of her face as she holds a basket of chocolate easter eggs she found after the easter bunny hid them. She looks like a refugee except that everything about her tells you a different story. That's what childhood is about IMO.

This has alway struck me as the female equivalent of the loser father at the baseball game that constantly yells at his son.

Also, I know this is trivial in the context, but it's one of my pet peeves. The one and only thing that you absolutely, positively must know to use lipstick effectively: color between the lines!!!

OMG, Justin! You aren't kidding. The after pics all look literally like dolls, especially that first girls' eyes -- they turned from little girl eyes to literally eyes like you'd see in a baby doll. Why would anyone want that? And what was wrong with that little boy's hair to begin with? I thought it was cute as is. The hair gel touch up was just horrendous.

This is what happens when parents try to live vicariously through their children. Mommy never got to do beauty pageants so she has the daughter do them. These fucking people need serious help.

At 15, my daughter asked to be in a pageant. I let her, but told her I wasn't big into pageants and explained why. My beautiful daughter lost miserably, and afterwards, she started in with all this insecure (I'm soooo fat, etc.) mumbojumbo. I purposely bought the video of it ($65) just so I could point out a few disturbing things about the pageant I found wholly revolting. Three weeks later when the video arrived in the mail, we sat down and watched it. The three contestants who won the bathing suit division looked like holocaust victims, the one that won the Miss Congeniality division was the one with the most pathetic "talent" routine, and the one who got top prize was the sister of the top prize winner from the year before. Of course, I can't forget to mention the prize for the contestant whose family and friends put the most money in her popularity jar. Now, that prize has to make you feel special! Anyway, we were able to laugh a little and have some pretty deep talk about real beauty and from where self-worth truly comes. She soon quit with the bullshit mumbojumbo too. Needless to say, we don't do pageants anymore, but on a real superficial level (ha), what a waste of cash!

It's important that we confine this trend, even as we punish it with our other social mechanisms. See #2.
