Matt Welch On The Real McCain Scandal
In short, McCain has a history of getting a lot of money for various lobbies and doing favors for campaign contributors. But, watch the whole thing, as Reynolds would say.
Reason editor-in-chief Welch laid out The Real McCain in his terrific book, McCain: The Myth of a Maverick, which more people should be reading now that McCain is looking like he's going to be the Republican nominee.
McCain's anything but the straight-talker he portrays himself as, and rather, in Matt's words from the video above, is a very "unexamined candidate."
By the way, McCain's campaign is just swimming in lobbyists.

Kaus has a bunch of people saying that if the McCain sex scandal takes root, then he could lose the candidacy. Who would the Republicans run then?

Got no idea about that, Crid, but last night on our local news (New Haven CT), there was a blurb about CT native Ralph Nader tossing his hat into the ring again. Looks like it's gonna be a long election year. o_O

I'd like to see all the candidates currently in the running be out of the running. Run Newt, run!

P.S. Saw that on Kaus, but I think he's being a mischief-maker.

We'll sort it out later.
Back to back headlines on CNN this morning:
• Ticker: McCain: I hope Castro dies
• Amazing memory: man never forgets

Does no one remember the Keating Five? Although in an odd twisted way it would be good experience, no?
Son of RTC, banks facing severe solvency issues, runs left and right. It would be just like deja vu, all over again for him. Or Deja Moo, Same bullshit over again. heehee.

Personally I liked the ring of the Hunter F. Thompson ticket, but I don't think it could get enough of a following. I definitely like Gingrich. If you cut past the assinine hyperbole about him and actually listen to what he says, he is one of the most intelligent politiicians living today.
Two things about Matts video, I don't agree that this NYT hit piece is going to help McCain at all. His campaign is saying that his fundraising has skyrocketed on this but they won't tell what the numbers are, so I think they're milking it.
Second, I think he missed the biggest issue of the 08 election. I don't think it's the war, I think it's illegal immigration. The more things settle down in Iraq, the more the MSM keeps quiet about it, it goes off the radar screen. Illegal immigration is actually changing neighborhoods across the US so fast it is starting to piss people off. A couple of examples, here in San Diego, we had three pedestrians run over and killed in ONE HOUR here a couple of weeks ago. Hit and runs are an epidemic here. Why? Because we have mexican drivers all over the place who don't know the rules about how to drive in the U.S. And they will run if they get into trouble. Our state has about a 16 Bil budget deficit and our idiot governor is still trying to create more big govt programs and give more benefits to illegals.
John McCain is absolutely determined, along with the other globalists, to erase our borders and work toward a North American Union. If this happens, we will descend into a third world life style for most of our working class rather quickly. That is why I hate his guts. Matt didn't even mention this, nor did he mention that John McCain had Juan Hernandez on his staff, that smirking little mexican prick who doesn't believe that our southern border is legitimate. How can you have a member of MEChA on your staff and not admit that you don't want open borders? (link below)

Granted, this may be more important to me as I live near the border and have had more than a few friends killed on both sides and see the violence, anarchy and corruption that is the mexican culture, but it is coming to a theatre near you soon enough. Along with the drop in wages that happen and the moving out of those people who can't afford to support their families because the prevailing wage won't get you much more than a third world life style. That woman who recently killed four kids in a school bus accident in Minnesota is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. They know she’s an illegal probably from mexico but they also know she is lying about her real name. She has a fake ID. If they let her go, she will go back to mexico, get a new consular matricula card with another name, (they don’t ask for ID when they issue one in mexico), and she’ll be back with blond hair and a new identity and the only way they will ever catch her is if she gets arrested again and they do a fingerprint check.

Bikerken, that's Hunter S. Thompson, but I forgive you. Actually, I love the way Johnny Depp played him in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; I'd vote for Depp as Thompson!
I have a copy of Thompson's The Great Shark Hunt on my desk at all times, you should read it; I miss him teddibly (said in best Ralph Steadman imitation).
His alter ego, Raoul Duke, used to write the sports column for Rolling Stone. My fave quote: When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. Gotta love it!
Anyway, here's the link on Nader, he's going in as a 3rd party candidate for President:

Line forms to the left. Sheesh. o_O

Ugh. Indeed.
And here's Matt Welch on Nader. Headline - "Speaking Lies to Power - Ralph Nader fudges the truth just like a real politician."

Shoulda hung onto Welch at the LA Times, huh?

Flynne, I actually meant Hunter F. Thompson, A.K.A. Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson. But I am a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson too. Love his writing. I always got a kick out of Doonesbury too. Trudeau had him nailed down.

Oh, that guy! I only knew of him as Fred Thompson. Funny that. And yeah, Uncle Duke always tickles my funny bone, too!
