We'll Always Have Parris
The Times/UK's Matthew Parris reads the reality act on Archbishop of Canterbury's speech suggesting Sharia law as a dandy addition to Great Britain:
Those who read his speech properly will see that his entire argument turns upon the freedom of the group member to “opt out” of the “supplementary jurisdiction” and choose British law instead. But repressive faith groups make it culturally difficult - sometimes well-nigh impossible - for a member to opt out.
Such as gays, women, and atheists, all of whom do extremely poorly in terms of rights under Islam...such as the right to continue living.
Wouldn't it be simpler to just "opt out" of the UK and emigrate? Like tens of thousands who are fleeing the high-tax, absurdly intrusive, anti-freedom nanny state every year? And along comes the ArchMoron with a plan to encourage the rest of the best to leave...

Yeah, right. There will be no honor killing of the woman who opts out of Islamic court. They'll respect her right to do so. Fact is, they're only considering this out of fear and laziness. They might actually have to lock these nut cases up if they were held to secular law and you wouldn't want to be seen as an un PC, anti-Islamic infidel, would you?

Curly -
I was listening to the BBC's "World Have Your Say" the other day on this topic. A Brit Muslim said very much the same thing. Indeed, he went as far as to mention that he had left Saudi Arabia to get away from the repressive strictures of Sharia law. He said that anyone who wants to live under Sharia, would be welcome to take his place there.

I dont know what to say. This blog is wonderful. Thats not genuinely a actually huge statement, but its all I could come up with following reading this. You know so much about this subject. So a lot so that you made me want to understand far more about it. Your weblog is my stepping stone, my friend. Thanks for the heads up on this subject.
