If you want to reduce consumption, raise the price.
If you want to make billions, shut down most of your production facilities and reduce the supply of a product critical to society, and THEN raise the price.

I especially like the effect that $3.50 gas is having on the "green" alternatives. How much of that is real cost and how much is markup due to the meteoric rise of gasoline prices?

I definitely think that if a gas station wants to conserve fuel, they should raise their prices. That way fewer people will buy gas there, and the gas station owners can thus feel exhonerated, and feel as well like members of the Sierra Club.

Amy,
I actually know a wealthy "progressive" woman from the westside that bought a prius for each of her kids so they could all do their part to fight global warming. Meanwhile she commutes every week back and forth between her two homes on a private jet.
You just can't make this stuff up in Los Angeles.
