How Dumb Is Our Mayor?
Okay, so Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa hasn't been caught with a hooker -- at least, not as of midnight on Monday.
And don't blame me, I voted for Hertzberg. But, I heard on Larry Elder's radio show the other day that Villaraigosa failed the bar FOUR times, and still has yet to pass. Now, maybe he's not dim, just lazy as fuck, but either way, I'm disgusted.
What kind of dumbshits are we electing in this country?

Just the story behind his last name....

PP: Word.
But for the record, they say California's bar exam is brutal.

Elected officials are only as dumb as the electorate permits.
From Kern in the last thread, to huckabee to mayor V of LA they were all put there by the voters.
What tiny percentage vote? Oh, well then the cure to dumb people electing other dumb people is to get the smart people to vote and balance it all out.
Want to make sure there are more smart people in the world? Make sure the basics are hammered into elementary schoo kids, help them to love reading and then push them hard.

Being mayor shouldn't be your prize for flunking it repeatedly.
In fact, I probably wouldn't hire a four-time flunkee as a paralegal.
And again, I voted for Hertzberg.

California's bar is brutal....the dean of Stanford Law School, who wrote my Con Law textbook, failed it last year.
Then again, plenty of people do pass, and after four shots...well...

Nobody of quality will run for elected office, it just means you're going to get slandered in the press and have to pander to a semi-literate mob. People with ambition go into business these days.

I've been meaning to learn to play guitar for forty years, and have owned ten of them. I still suck. But employers still hire me, women still date me, and puppies still sniff my Keds.

It's not like we invested in his law degree, right?

California's bar exam is NOT brutal - it's just that the low pass rate gives that impression, for several reasons having nothing to do with difficulty.
For example, California is virtually the only state that lets students from unaccredited law schools take the bar exam. It is also one of the few states that allows candidates to take the bar exam an unlimited number of times. Needless to say, students who don't go to an accredited school, or who can't pass on their first 3 tries (the limit in most states) are much less likely to pass at all, so they drag the statistics down.
In my experience, with smart, well-educated people like the Stanford dean who don't pass on the first try, it's because they thought they didn't need to study, and took the process too casually, or sometimes because they had family and work commitments that didn't allow for sufficient study.

And people samy I am paraniod when I point out that the federal department of education and legislation like the no child left behind act only serve to make students duller and discorage critical thinking.
The government has a vested interest in having a large majority of the electoral be nothing more than moronic imbicles whos decision are more effected by a short easily repeated emotionally charged slogan (convenianly replayed 100 times a day on every news station)than a minute or two of rational thought.
How eles do you explain the TSA? I mean come on, how on earth is it FUCKING POSSIBLE for 100 or so million americans to be comforted by the fact that TSA screened cant tell the differece between bottled water and C4?
