The Death Cult Known As "The Religion Of Peace"
I know a bunch of people who've converted from one religion to another; for example, Luke Ford, who left Seventh Day Adventism and became an Orthodox Jew. Now, I have heard Luke express many things, but never the fear that the Seventh Day Adventists would, say, slit his throat in his sleep for leaving their fold.
Next, we have prominent Italian editor, Magdi Allam, a Muslim, who converted to Christianity right there in the Vatican, supervised by the Pope. Here are a few words on what he has to look forward to from Colby Cosh in Canada's National Post:
As a high-profile apostate, he has a harder path to tread now. Already his biting editorials against Muslim terror and feeble Western multiculturalism have required him to travel with security guards and take other precautions against assassination. Hamas is said to have issued a death sentence against him in 2003, and in 2007 he published a book entitled Viva Israele, a title guaranteed to infuriate.Now he becomes an even more visible target, singled out for the special opprobrium that all varieties of mainstream Islam reserve for those who abandon the faith. This was a rarely acknowledged factor behind the Muslim world's powerful reaction to the publication of Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses in 1988; Rushdie's Muslim upbringing and instruction made his "crime" of insulting the Prophet and the Koran an offence not only against God, who is considered free to punish evildoers at leisure, but against the umma within which the novelist was raised.
In the eyes of Islamists, Rushdie was still under their geographically unlimited jurisdiction, and the fatwah against him was a form of self-defence. Allam is in danger of having the same rules applied to him.

Criticism of Islam, however, has led to violence and murder world-wide. Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie over his 1988 book, "The Satanic Verses." Although Mr. Rushdie has survived, two people associated with the book were stabbed, one fatally. The 2005 Danish editorial cartoons lampooning the prophet Muhammad led to numerous deaths. Dutch director Theodoor van Gogh was killed in 2004, several months after he made the film "Submission," which described violence against women in Islamic societies. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Dutch member of parliament who wrote the script for "Submission," received death threats over the film and fled the country for the United States.The violence Dutch officials are anticipating now is part of a broad and determined effort by the radical jihadist movement to reject the basic values of modern civilization and replace them with an extreme form of Shariah. Shariah, the legal code of Islam, governed the Muslim world in medieval times and is used to varying degrees in many nations today, especially in Saudi Arabia.
Radical jihadists are prepared to use violence against individuals to stop them from exercising their free speech rights.
...There may be a direct relationship between the radical jihadists' opposition to democracy and their systematic abuse of women. Women have virtually no rights in this radical world: They must conceal themselves, cannot hold jobs, and have been subjected to honor killings. Would most women in Muslim countries vote for a candidate for public office who supported such oppressive rules?
Not all of these radicals are using violence to supplant democratic society with an extreme form of Shariah. Some in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark are attempting to create parallel Islamic societies with separate courts for Muslims. According to recent press reports, British officials are investigating the cases of 30 British Muslim school-age girls who "disappeared" for probable forced marriages.
While efforts to create parallel Islamic societies have been mostly peaceful, they may actually be a jihadist "waiting game," based on the assumption that the Islamic populations of many European states will become the majority over the next 25-50 years due to higher Muslim birth rates and immigration.
...A central premise of the American experiment are these words from the Declaration of Independence: "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." There are similar statements in the U.S. Constitution, British Common Law, the Napoleonic Code and the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. As a result, hundreds of millions in the U.S. and around the world enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion and many other rights.
These liberties have been won through centuries of debate, conflict and bloodshed. Radical jihadists want to sacrifice all we have learned by returning to a primitive and intolerant world. While modern society invites such radicals to peacefully exercise their faith, we cannot and will not sacrifice our fundamental freedoms.
Some Western Muslims won't kill you, but they will try to muzzle you, as is evidenced in the campaigns to use Canadian laws against Western Standard publisher Ezra Levant and columnist Mark Steyn, who correctly wrote about the militant Islam spreading across the globe:
"Youth + Will = Disaster for whoever gets in your way."

I'm no fan of religion, and I recently beat up a priest over the molestation and condom issues -- figuratively, here:

But, the fact remains, Muslim imams and religious figures stand up daily and weekly and goad their followers to kill the infidels, per their religious texts. Rabbis and priests do not, even though there's some creepy stuff in the Bible, down to the notion that it's good to kill your kid because "god" says so.
Islam is the greatest danger to modernity and freedom to live on without being murdered there is.
Note how there are death orders against anybody who leaves the religion or dares criticize it.
I mean, how immature and backward. And evil.
And, as Marion says, "evil" isn't a word I commonly toss around.

Bottom line, if a small cult of a hundred people or so was doing as Islam does, threatening or killing dissidents, forcing marraiges, compelling highly restrictive dress codes, and advocating the overthrow of the government...it would have been investigated, major leaders arrested, had its tax exempt status revoked, and probably banned in most countries where that was possible.
But none of that happens to Islam, even though it does all the things violent small cults do.

There is much to be admired in the Islamic civilization that was, centuries ago. But back then, it was progressive. Back then, was 13 centuries ago, until about 5 centuries ago. It did a great deal in that time, it preserved learning from the ancients and provided, albeit accidentally, the spark that reignited the fire of western learning.
However, since that time it has been trapped by the same methods that brought it successes. Those methods are no longer progressive, they are backwards in almost every way. Where it was once liberal with regards to the treatment of slaves, today there are leaders in Islam arguing that slavery cannot be prohibited because the Koran allows it. Just as one cannot allow what god forbids, you also cannot prohibit what god allows.
When Islam speaks of peace...it speaks only of peace with fellow Muslims, not peace with nonpractitioners.
I will agree that the western Christian church has not always been a bastion of liberalism and justice or human dignity, nor liberty for that matter.
However the difference rests in potential for modernity.
When Jesus was faced with a crowd dragging an adulteress out in public, caught in the act, to stone her, he said, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and told her to go and sin no more. When Mohammed was faced with an adulteress who confessed her sin and sought to atone, if my memory of the story is sound, he waited until she'd had the child she was made pregnant with, and weaned the child, then he had her buried up to her neck in sand, and had rocks chucked at her head until she died. To his credit he forbade the abuse of her corpse. By the standards of his day, he was a progressive.
But we are no longer in the 7th century. The world has changed, but the nature of Islam has not changed a whit since the split between Sunni & Shia after the prophet's death. When things like the above are taken seriously, along with all the Jihadist portions that go with it...one is blind, ignorant, foolish, and or complicit in the problem. Radical Islam is not a new phenomenon, it just stopped winning on the battlefield a few centuries ago and took on a new form.

@Dead God: your comments are totally irrelevant. Sure, things are bad in other religions - no-one's touting for them, and you'll find plenty people here to agree. But that has as much relevance to the criticism of Islam as saying that religions are bad on the planet Zog.
Imagine you are in court charged with beating up your next door neighbour. Your defence is that in Tibet people shoot each other, so what does he have to complain about?
Or you go to the doctor with a broken arm - and he says, people in New York are killed in car crashes! So your arm's not that bad.
I've laboured the point because this example of Islamic logic makes me suspect that you need lots of examples.

Geert Wilders is right about Islam. The Qur'an teaches hate and bigotry. It should not be used to instruct children or be used in prisons as a conversion tool.
Islamophobia? Who are the true Islamophobes? Network Solutions and YouTube? Those who try to silence the truth-tellers out of fear? A phobia is an irrational fear. Understanding the true motives of Islam and wanting to stop Islamization is not irrational.
Islam is the antithesis of our Bill of Rights and our Constitution. Muslims will tell you Islam means peace. What is meant by this is that all will be peaceful under Islam - if one accepts Islam. If not, those of other faiths can exist by paying the jizyah. This is what Islam teaches. Paying jizyah (tax) to Allah in order to be allowed to practice a religion other than Islam is not freedom of religion. If Islam spreads and becomes the dominant religion, how long before the right to freedom of religion is abolished to be in line with Qur'anic scripture?
Study the Qur'an and the ahadiths. A rational human being can only come to the conclusion that Islam was developed by a man who, because he thirsted for power, developed an ideology based on his deliberate perversions of Judaism and Christianity in order to create hatred for the followers of those religions. Create the hatred, then create an army to ravage and take control of the lands of the People of the Book (Jews & Christians). Islam is not just a religion. It is an ideology with political, military and religious aspects. It is a total belief system.
The Crusades were, of course, the quest to retake the lands stolen by the first Jihadists - Muhammad and his followers.
Do you realize that the Siege of Vienna took place on September 11, 1683? Why do you think September 11 was the date chosen by 19 Islamists to fly planes into our buildings? It was a message to us that Islam was again on the rise.
Interfaith groups seem a noble cause, but they only promote Islamization, because the attempt on the part of naive non-Muslims is not reciprocated with the same noble intentions on the part of Muslims. This is not to say all Muslims are gifted in the "art" of taqiyya (lying) and use it. In fact, there are many Muslims who do not even know the finer points of their faith and who have become secularized or they are indoctrinated and do not question their faith.
Muslims will tell you that you cannot understand Islam properly if you do not know Arabic. (There is some indication that Arabic was not the original language used) And, of course, if you do not understand Arabic, then you must only study with a Muslim who does. Don't listen to them who say this. Certainly, one can listen to, read, study both sides, if one is interested in "being fair-minded." But quite frankly, within the first several days of studying Islam, I was able to to easily see how and why Islam came to be. I was appalled by the so-called prophet of Islam and by the Qur'an, which is, as Wilders called it, fascistic in nature. Muhammad not only lived in the Spin Zone, I am quite sure that he created it. He said Allah said something, but then when that thing conflicted with something Muhammad wanted or did, he simply explained it away with a new saying from Allah to justify his behavior.
Contrast Muhammad with Jesus Christ and there is no comparison. Muhammad was a brutal warrior and Jesus was only peaceful. God bless Pope Benedict for playing the very dangerous game of chess with Muslim leaders. He is a brilliant man and I fear that priests and others who are doing interfaith work do not have the knowledge to engage in it properly. Islam in America is here to win, not to merely live side-by-side with other faiths.
CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in an ongoing case regarding contributions to Hamas, claims to be nothing more than an advocacy group for Muslims, but instead, they are engaged in fake lawsuits to promote the Islamization of America. They are here to make sure our children's text books say nothing bad about Islam. They are here to make sure footbaths are installed in public institutions and to accustom us to call to prayer. They use the excuse that we have church bells, but church bells are used for many reasons. Call to prayer only has one purpose. In various places around the globe, call to prayer goes on forever at 2 a.m. When I hear call to prayer, it reminds me of 9/11. It is a sound that does not belong in this country. It causes distress for too many.
Many former Muslims are warning us about Islam. Listen to them. Listen to Ayaan Hirsi Ali; to Walid Shoebat, a former Palestinian terrorist who converted to Christianity, to Bat Ye'or, to Nonie Darwish, to Wafa Sultan, to Robert Spencer.
If not for those of us who speak of the dangers of Islam, Turkey would not be attempting revision of the ahadiths. That should tell you something - that Islam in its present form is unacceptable.
There are those Muslims in America who are attempting reform or pushing a New Age version of Sufism, but can Islam be reformed? Muslims believe the Qu'ran is the word of God handed to Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel. How does one reform what is supposedly the word of God? Muslims have begun a campaign to disassociate themselves from the Taliban, from violence, from what they call a perversion of Islam, but the Qur'an itself calls for violence. The jihadists follow the true Islam.
As the saying goes, there are moderate Muslims, but there is no moderate Islam.
If you are truly open-minded, you will seek out all opinion and treat it fairly. You will not accept the false idea that only Muslims understand Islam.
