As educated (and – okay – snarky) activists, we’re quick to respond to “According to the dictionary” arguments with “Who wrote the dictionary, though?”
We understand that a reference guide created by a white supremacist, heteropatriarchal system does nothing but uphold that status quo.
Yes, and it's kinda relevant. 85%-97% of readers would presume that I'm the troll and that Little Arty is the tortured urchin, because my aggression is naked and shameless, while his is defensive and needy.
Yet in fact my comments are purely reactive. People who aren't presumptuous, pretentious or (baselessly) condescending enjoy only my tremendous kindness and hospitality— I serve them the finest meats and cheeses... Play them lilting melodies on sweet-timbre'd acoustic instruments... Sex them with a moist, gentle warmth, a touch which will live in their hearts always....
But when someone pretends to know something they don't know and pretends to have some kind of experience of the world that they don't have, and then starts giving others (almost always strangers) a difficult time [Hi Artemis!], I can be a little nasty.
(Their abject manipulations then begin to stack up, as Artemis' do, endlessly.)
But most everyone else in the comment stack wanted to sympathize with him, even though he hadn't faced the consequences for his misbehavior, or even plainly confessed to it.
Amy, and her readers, decided that it was the people who wanted decent justice who were the meeneez. Poor little criminal!
Ironic, right?
And then there was that time that Amy defended herself against grotesquely defamatory conduct from a government worker posting anonymously on the clock… And commenters here were worried on his behalf.
From these examples and oh-so-many others, we see that many Americans are not good at keeping score in contests of decency.
…Especially, it seems, when they're trailing badly from the start of the event.

Exceprt from the grammar thing.
any time we create a hierarchy by positioning one thing as “better” than another, we’re being oppressive.
So if I were to say X government is better than the Nazis, then I am opressing Nazis?
Arty's a tar baby. He'll suck you into a long exchange in which he really really needs to get the last word (in his case, the last 3,500 words).
Only his comments are galling, so you really really want to respond to them. And you do. Then he sticks his next batch of nonsense in there. And so on.
Never get into a land war in Asia ... or try to have an intelligent idea exchange with Artemis.

That you even have the temerity to judge reveals that you are part of the oppressive white male heterosexual patriarchy; probably use an Oxford comma, too.

[A.] See thesis above: Americans aren't good at scorekeeping for incidental conflicts on ethical topics with distant strangers. They don't understand that the game clock is always running.
[B.] Also, many Americans are timid, undercooked personalities who imagine their shallow feelings and fleeting perceptions are the concentric center of life's meaning; Through this dense tissue of fear and resentment, they're unable to perceive the needs or integrity of the vast majority of our stable and productive citizenry, who, moving courageously and productively through their adult lives, just don't have time for weepy-child bullshit.
I did like Arty's definition of troll which required knowing the intent of the writer. So obviously he is never wrong because he has the best of intentions but magically he can see into the hears and minds of everyone else and knows what mean and evil little people they are. It fits right in with his claim that everything he writes is a work of artful communication stunning in it's composition, clarity, and brevity, despite what everyone else says.
As an aside, I still don't know how to take your 'sunny' appellation. It is just not a term I have ever considered for myself.

Nor do I know how to take "arguments that are self contradictory or contradict what you have argued elsewhere."
You declined the opportunity to present a citation, so maybe I shouldn't sweat it too deeply. Or take concern with the judgment its author brings to the blog comments of others.
Please don't make me do my homework Crid. You write a lot of stuff. And most of it has to be read in context too. I don't know if I have enough time or energy to separate arguments made in jest or mock from serious ones. Much less the raw skill either. By all means put it down to my lack of reading comprehension.
I just admit to being mystified by sunny. The concept had never occurred to me. I'm more used to boring, persnickety, mono-focused, or weird. I was a bit proud when people started calling me reasonable. There are far too few reasonable engineers out there. I'm even used to the 'Are you gay?' question. Being gay is apparently the acceptable form of weird these days. I don't know if that's tolerance or not.

I'm far too BUSY to substantiate my glib, offhand and baseless ridicule of your integrity... But here's a few more paragraphs.
People should accept that? That's supposed to be cool?
A couple of classics on Reddit tonight.
Internet reruns are faster than the old-fashioned kind.

Apparently, in today's feminism, proper English grammar is racist, sexist, and homophobic.

This is one of my all-time favorites. This guy was obviously just a terrified (and perhaps cruel) coward.
