The Social Justice Scam
I am increasingly convinced that "social justice" and many or most of those pushing for it really just want unearned power over others.
Shocking. Portland has been taken over by a violent mob. Watch the motorcycle cop just looking on, much in the way a fat, somnolent cat stares out the window. Listen to the hatred of white people and the assumption that NC license = KKK. https://t.co/IfZewPOvyG

It’s over, it’s done, the end is begun, If you listen to fools the mob rules.

Still no such thing as earned power.
Ben at October 9, 2018 5:59 AM
That guy whom you say "plowed through" the (violent little shits) is an elderly man. He was going very slowly -- probably (I'd guess) hoping to get away, probably out of fear. I'd be terrified.
A man with homicidal intent would have put his foot down on the gas, no?
Amy Alkon at October 9, 2018 7:12 AM
What those delinquents in Portland were doing isn't protesting. It's sport. It's just entertainment.
Antifascist? If those twits ever figure out what a fascist is and go looking for one they'll find each other.
Ken R at October 9, 2018 7:59 AM
A "fascist" these days is anyone with whom the SJWs disagree.
BTW, why is Antifa "directing traffic" in Portland. Does the city not have traffic cops?
Conan the Grammarian at October 9, 2018 8:37 AM
Apparently they are in charge. The cops clearly have no interest in dealing with the various crimes they are commuting.
Ben at October 9, 2018 8:42 AM
Conan: BTW, why is Antifa "directing traffic" in Portland. Does the city not have traffic cops?
Would it kill you to research something on your own? You have the internet. It's not meant for stuffing turkeys.
They are doing this solely to annoy white people. Non-whites they allow to pass through. Whites they demand take a detour.

Yessssssss! Gratuitous suffering brought upon idiots by other idiots! Be sure to
It's important to SEE the torment of distant wretches in a weak hour... Only through the most tawdry and detached-but-intrusive exploitation of their pain will you develop the political instincts which can guide through this most important and unprecedented hour of American decline!Be sure and WATCH WATCH WATCH!!!
Don't you understand?!?
YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH YOUR POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR MOST BASE AND CHILDLIKE EMOTIONS STOKED BY THE CLUMSY SORROW OF OTHERS! That's just how it works!

Crid at October 9, 2018 10:32 AM
The question was not about what Antifa was doing in the street, but why it was "directing traffic" ← see, that's in quotes, indicating that phrase was at the heart of my question.
They were marching to protest the police shooting of a black man, Patrick Kimmons.
If this were a scheduled march, with permits and everything, wouldn't the police have already re-routed traffic and blocked off streets?
When I first saw Ngo's tweet yesterday, his description jumped out at me, "the type of street anarchy that routinely happens where I live."
Yet, later in the same tweet, Antifa's actions were described in non-anarchic terms - not as "blocking traffic" but as "directing traffic" - indicating some acceptance of this "type of street anarchy" as normal and some implied authority on the part of Antifa to reroute traffic at will without police restraint or interference.
Ben's response afterward indicates that my question was not cryptic, but pretty straightforward. "Apparently they are in charge." Indeed.
And, that, dumbass, was the point of my question.
Oh and, Patrick, before you say "thin-skinned" one more time, please come up with an original insult. That one's far too derivative of Crid calling you "brittle" and me calling you a "bitter little man" and "puritanical." Try to come up with original insults instead of piggy-backing off other people's.
Good luck with Michael, by the way. Hope the impact is minimal in your area. My cousin's in Gulf Breeze, so they're battening down the hatches.

What is the point of a demonstration? To change my mind, alter my world view?
Hint: If you call me vile names, threaten me with violence, and hit my car with sticks, you are unlikely to change my mind or alter my world view. Except, perhaps, to alter it in ways you did not intend.

Robert Redford is complaining that he doesn't feel at home in America any more.
The irony of an industry-powerful super-wealthy privileged white man who drinks too much and has a lifetime of getting what he wants complaining about his peers is apparently lost on him.
Wait until the Portland mob turns on him.
Gog_Magog_Carpet_Reclaimers at October 9, 2018 2:55 PM
Why? You actually imagine you deserve originality?
You didn't like "pompous ass"? As I recall, you actually conceded that point. If only "sometimes."
And what are you at other times? Asleep?
Oh, did Crid call me that? I pretty much ignore his stuff. His writing style's more effeminate than even I could come up with.
I'll say one thing for your writing: at least I can actually stand yours.
Gog_Magog:
He's free to leave the country any time he wants. I imagine he has the resources to move anywhere and live quite comfortably for the remainder of his days.
Or he can drop dead. That would solve his problem, too.
Patrick at October 9, 2018 3:27 PM
"What is the point of a demonstration?"
It is a demonstration of power, pure and simple. The thought is to embolden their supporters and strike fear in their enemies.
I've heard many businesses there have pro antifa/leftist signs in their windows. So that their windows don't get broken/businesses looted, but seeing a dozen shops with them has a psychological effect.
If you are an average person and you see thugs ordering around citizens, the police ignoring it and businesses "supporting" it: you feel you are the only one on your side, you keep quiet, or join the mob, or move or take your lumps. If you fight, the media will label you a Nazi and the sympathetic police will go after you.
Joe J at October 9, 2018 7:37 PM
After seeing what happened to Reginald Denny I'm not about to stop for any demonstrators.
Also, fortunately, Oregon is a right-to-carry state.
One way or the other, Antifa will certainly soon pick on at least one wrong guy, and get their just deserts.
Still, it will help if we can amend the Constitution to add "going about your normal daily business without deliberate interference" as a right equal to or greater than freedom to express hatred by mob violence. I would like to join or start a petition for this purpose on whitehouse.gov.
