I'm probably one of the last people in the known universe who still makes gribenes BUT I make it in the microwave. The rendered fat is my schmaltz. My Mother would plotz but I'm years past caring.

Most people know that watching TV can never and SHOULD never be considered equal to reading - or to socializing and learning ever more social skills. (Even adults always have more social skills to learn, with regard to other cultures.) Not to mention that any doctor will tell you that toddlers shouldn't be watching screens at all, for multiple reasons.
However, I have to say that Rosemond definitely has an important point to make in this week's column that probably no critic has ever dared say about "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." (Assuming the critics ever thought of this point in the first place. I certainly didn't.)
Hint: As I said in 2018: (certain) consumers get false expectations of how much gratification they're entitled to, and over time, that will make them more unhappy in the real world. Like little kids who watch too much "kid-friendly" TV. Even "Sesame Street," after all, implies that kids and adults should be on equal levels and that schoolwork shouldn't involve any work that's even slightly boring or time-consuming.

Darth, that's a great article.
The long-term psychological damage collectivism does is insidious. It destroys trust, community, creativity, and ambition.
If you ever get a chance to watch The Lives of Others, I highly recommend it. A coworker who grew up in Ceaușescu's Romania recommended it. The absolute destruction of the human soul that collectivism brings is well-represented.

Interesting that anyone would think "newer" is better, considering that F1 teams are funded and staffed better than some nations. The consumer computer industry has been wildly successful in convincing the public that the newest version of something is mandatory...

Not always better, but available. If you read the article, McLaren is having trouble finding enough functioning Commodore Amigas with which to do the maintenance and upkeep. And not only McLaren, but the US military as well. Backwards compatibility is not always practical to build into "newer" software and hardware, so there's a reason to stay up-to-date.
