On the bright side, had this been done in America, the cops would have popped him like a zit the moment he starts yelling at them.

On reddit, there is a section called "Am I The Asshole?" where people explain their situation and want to know if they were at fault for how they acted. It's an interesting discussion, although it would be more effective if we could hear the other side.
This one struck close to home with me. A guy's 14-year-old son came out to his parents as gay. He claims he doesn't have a problem with it, nor does his wife and 16-year-old son.
However, the father's brother, the kid's uncle, does have a problem with it, and is homophobic by the OP's admission. However, he graciously allows his 14-year-old son to stay in his room when his homophobic uncle comes to visit. And his son doesn't have to accompany the family when they go to visit his homophobic uncle.
Gee, what a guy!

This will work out well. I wonder how many will die in the food riots and following that, of starvation and/or malnourishment?

I remember back when I had a minor league hockey team, and I stated that such and such player on an opposing team was a goon. Somehow he ended up on our team's roster, and I was asked how I felt about it.
"Oh, he's still goon, but he's our goon!"

I see that the 10th Amendment is trending on Twitter. Nice to see the libs discover something that's been around since late 1791.

In her refusal to castigate Joe Biden for the same "crime" as she freely and readily did Brett Kavanaugh, Alyssa Milano said she did not "...feel comfortable throwing away a decent man that I've known for 15 years...."
I think this highlights the root of the problem. We've made the political personal. Too many people don't associate regularly with people of differing political views. What about those people who've known Kavanaugh as a decent man for 15 years?
That the accusation in both the Kavanaugh and Biden cases is not supported by witnesses or by a demonstrable pattern of behavior matters not to Milano - nor to the New York Times - in Kavanaugh's case, but forms the bulwark of the defense of Biden.
That's why the friendship between Ginsburg and Scalia was so remarkable. Two people of widely-differing political persuasions being friends despite those differences is not an everyday occurrence these days. It should be.
As a society, we need to get to know, as friends and neighbors, people who voted for the other guy. Disagreement in political matters does not by default make someone an awful person undeserving of the benefit of the doubt. Atheists can be fine people; and so can Christians.

Patrick, until I opened it, I thought it was the father's idea for the boy to isolate himself that way.
Yes, it's a rotten situation, but it's almost never a good idea to let your kids order you to cut ties with people - especially close relatives - unless, maybe, we're talking about criminal behavior on the part of the other adult. (As the saying SHOULD say, "innocent unless proven guilty.")
As Conan pointed out, indirectly, you don't get people to change their minds by shunning them, even if staying friendly takes decades before it makes any difference.
In the meantime, unfortunately, I can't seem to open any comments at Reddit. How did the majority respond?

Lenona, it's not just that he's maintaining a relationship with his brother, it's that kid has to hide in his room or clear out when said brother comes over.
By all means continue the relationship... but make it more of the couples going out and don't have him in your home, unless maybe the son already has other plans or something. Kid shouldn't feel unsafe in his own home
