The Climate Crisis Industrial Complex
Just like the Homelessness, Inc., industries -- connected people earning big from "helping" homeless people (in ways that tend to ignore science and maintain homelessness -- Climate, Inc. is big business.
When they climate summit is a worldwide Zoom call to discuss how to massively expand nuclear power and incentivize carbon recapture, I will know that we are finally getting serious about climate.

Great fucking point by McCune.
Billy's original tweet. (Totally adorbs young writer at Reason who came out and hung with me for drinks.)
Have seen approx 4 commercials tonight about how Californians should "power down" from 4-9 PM every day to save energy in our janky ass grid. So after work I suppose we can all just sit in the dark & thumb wrestle. How do people in this state think what we're doing is working?

A string of sense on Twitter -- from a Reason writer confab:
*Posted this a bit early because I have my TED dress rehearsal today and I have to get home afterward and go to bed sooooper early.
Pushing hard on renewables by first shutting down coal oil and gas is so insane when there is no feasible replacement. Wind and solar are useless when there is no wind and it is dark but batteries are just a promise, not a real thing. Telling people to buy electric cars but oh, don't charge them...lol. It is magical thinking. The price of electricity in germany is 30c/kWh vs 13c in Chicago. Not funny. Now we get $5 gas in some places with the new EPA methane mandates being not possible and will shut down all drilling and refining.

I think the important thing is that Greta Thunberg, teen girl, is on the front page of the BBC News website.
She's like Joan of Arc, y'know?

"Pushing hard on renewables by first shutting down coal oil and gas is so insane ..."
True, but lots of grifters are making million$ off the scam.

Biden (“My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars.”) will be proud. But Greta may never speak to him again.

I still can't believe it. That is some Kim Jong-un level shit right there.

I'll gather up the wood, you bring the stake and the torches.

Isn't California that state that prosecuted the power company for manslaughter because their power lines started a fire in an area the State forbade controlled burns?
PS: the term, "renewable" is propagandist bullshit, but ever so slightly because there isn't a better generic term. Energy is the term for the ability to do work. Power is the expenditure of energy per unit time. "Natural" is actually a better term, since it doesn't offer the chance for some snowflake to think that they are superior is some way for using it - note the serious downsides to wind farms.
Radwaste at November 6, 2021 1:04 PM
I was thinking about the NIMBY stuff, and a few years back a wind farm project near here got voted down. It would have provided power for Geneva. I was against it.
I wouldn't mind it if it were for -us-, but frankly, fuck Geneva. They have their own fields they can put windmills in. We like our views, too. They can power themselves, and we can put windmills to power us but why should we have all of them?
NicoleK at November 6, 2021 2:39 PM
Do not miss that if you are not seeing the unit, "KWH", meaning "kilowatt-hours", you are not seeing a serious article about energy use.
Radwaste at November 7, 2021 10:03 AM
Well, given that the only way to solve the climate crisis is through industry... coming up with solutions to reduce our environmental impact, AND coming up with solutions to problems that we and/or nature have already caused... I'm not going to complain that such an industrial complex exists.
