I always love to hear progressive Islamists scholars speaking about their holy ways to deal with the little problems of life...

It's really hilarious to debate Muslims about this. Most of them of claim that the beating should be so light as to not leave a mark. I dunno ... I always thought the word beating implied marks ;)

So, um, does anybody here know enough Arabic to be sure that was translated accurately?
I'm just sayin', is all....

Phew - thanks for that, Amy. I was getting a little nervous that my boyfriend's etiquette was wrong when he beats me. Luckily he does it correctly...ass smacks only.
They are so enlightened. Tis thrilling news to hear that women must not be beaten like an animal or child. Such civilized progress!
Nothing declares a man to be a weak, neutered and ineffectual wimp like "Woman, it has gone on too long and I can't take it anymore".
And to be beat someone in a way as "not to cause harm". Wow. I'm inclined to use stronger language than I usually do but lack the vocabulary and style. Can someone who has a talent for a colorful turn of phrase please help out? Brian, are you out there? I always enjoy how you put things, and this seems a situation in need of your finesse. (BTW, I especially enjoyed your "Chang, you ignorant slut" during the atomic bomb debate from a few days ago)
Heaven help us, don't ever let these animals get any further in this country; I have three daughters.

This morning, I have downloaded the entire textual version of Wikipedia on my iPod Touch. I was still in awe in front of the technological feat of holding an entire encyclopedia in the palm of my hand when I saw that video.
For the first time of my life, I felt ashamed. How could I call myself a decent man without knowing how to beat a woman? The medieval words of this holy man brought me back to my senses; how can I call myself civilized, me who believe in equal right and who is gentle?
I am shocked by the enlightenment of those Mullash and I will follow for now on their teachings. Please just call me Ahmed for now on.
/Sarcasm.

Juliana - it's times like these when I fall back on the work of others.
Although it seems he's advocating you spank your wife.
Somehow I don't think he realizes that there are women out there who enjoy that.
In fact, it could set a bad precedent if you happen to have such a wife. Once she gets it in her head that when she sasses you she gets a spanking, it'll never end.
Which leads to a problem for the man - his hand could end up getting more action than his dick.
Anyone see the news item on the dolls that say "Islam is the light" instead of cooing? Mommy and Me, I think is the brand. Sold most everywhere, by fisher price. Target has recalled them.
Apparently the doll agrees with how she's beaten responsibly.

Strange how a muslim talking about how to beat women has us talking about spanking, but I do have an excuse. W spoke here at graduation this morning, and when my car got searched by the secret service on the way to my office, they were curious about the receipts i printed off last night from http://www.agentprovocateur.com/ along with the pictures. I was trying to explain the online, long distance shopping spree from last night with my girlfriend, but they were more interested where I was going, and what I was doing. Convinced by several IDs and parking tags, they let me go to work. And since school is out and everybody else here is at graduation, I started wasting time then saw the video about how to beat your wife on Amy's blog.
And it is true, the spanking can get a little old, but it's good practice for your hand when your girlfriend lives three hours away. Just sayin.

What asses. Camel and donkey asses.
And it's taken me several months to be ok with the ass smacks my girlfriend is always asking for.
We need to find and arabic version of the classic office memo: The beatings will continue until the morale improves.

What do you expect from a culture that mandates burkas & beatings for women, but has beauty contests for goats?
