Am I the only one who thinks she looks like a cross between a slimy log of ambergris and Minnie Driver after beaing beat to death with the ugly stick?
lujlp at February 20, 2009 5:21 AM
No, you're not.
Truth at February 20, 2009 5:24 AM
The best thing would be to let her sink into obscurity. Having her for a mother, the kids are screwed - nothing to be done. Let's not encourage copycats by giving this idiot publicity...
bradley13 at February 20, 2009 5:38 AM
It has struck me that she is the ultimate example of what the right-to-lifers wanted. You shouldn't destroy or use embryo's created for stem cell research left over from IVF treatments -- they all need to be implanted.
Then she is also the example for the feminazis who say that a man isn't really needed. No thought to the consequences of having 14 children without some solid support system.
But I could handle never hearing about her again.
Oh, and the fertility doctor should have his license not only revoked, but watch the license burned and the ashes thrown in the ocean.
Jim P. at February 20, 2009 5:54 AM
Come on, guys, yo're being mean. A hard working mom like her deserves good make-up, she shouldn't have to make do with "Wet n Wild"! Why should a cool, Joliesque chick like her have to use the same stuff as ordinary schmoes who earn their money the ordinary way?
NicoleK at February 20, 2009 6:17 AM
When you go to the link, there are several other blogs written about her. One that amused me profusely called her the Octopussy. But, there is another one that has a front and side view of her pregnant....and it is disgusting. Her stomach looks salamanderesque...all veiny and ugh....I am getting sick just thinking about it.
kg at February 20, 2009 6:23 AM
I'm reading about all the job cuts CA is having to resort to in order to get within sight of a budget. How many jobs could have been saved if they didn't have to cover her bills? What's her tab at? $4 million? That could be ooooh, 40 good paying jobs?

No, you're quite wrong. We don't think embryos should be destroyed, true. Most of us don't think IVF should happen at all, due to the consumerism of babies it encourages and the fact that there are so many needing homes already. But embryos can be donated to other couples. Or can be implanted one at a time. Or, best of all, not made at all.
And no one-NO ONE-on the public dole should ever get any treatment to have kids. period.
Serves her right if she gets evicted. Anyone know if homelessness is a reason for the state to take your kids? Should be.

You forgot to add 'sit in a test tube until they are completely usless', and 'flushed down the drain'
If life began at conception women would know at the moment of conception

"Am I the only one who thinks she looks like a cross between a slimy log of ambergris and Minnie Driver after beaing beat to death with the ugly stick?" I do now.
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is that the kids pay for mom's mistake. Not sure if there is an alternative but it still rankles.
"Most of us don't think IVF should happen at all" And you took a pole of Right to lifers when. There are plenty of RTLs who have no problem using IFV or fertility treatment but when there are 8 fetuses they refuse to reduce them. Nice try though.
vlad at February 20, 2009 7:38 AM
Homelessness may not necessarily be enough to lose custody of your kids. I know it's not in Illinois; we have the local rescue mission, and an amazing lady named Dola Gregory started up a children's version of it since there really wasn't anything for the kids of the homeless adults at the rescue mission. Hey, if this idea moves anyone, look her up at Rock House Ministries. You can only go so far with a big heart but insufficient funds.
juliana at February 20, 2009 8:06 AM
Just hearing about this bitch gets me all pissed off and worked up for hours. I'm going to have to start ignoring the stories on her.

"There are plenty of RTLs who have no problem using IFV or fertility treatment but when there are 8 fetuses they refuse to reduce them. Nice try though."
Find 3, Vlad. 3 right to lifers (she's not one, she just wanted tons of kids) who have had 8 kids though invitro because they wouldn't reduce.
Not that 3 would be "plenty" as you casually throw out. But I'm betting you can't find one.
momof3 at February 20, 2009 9:43 AM
I've got to say I'm supprised, everyone here seem to know what ambergris is.
Unless you cheated and looked it up
lujlp at February 20, 2009 10:23 AM
"Find 3, Vlad. 3 right to lifers"
What about the Gosslin family. You know from the show John and Kate Plus 8. In an interview Kate said when they found out she had 6 embryos she refused to reduce them on religious grounds. They attend church regulary.
Anyways I used to work with some financial agents. Most of them were born-again evangelicals. And the most ardent one had IVF because they couldnt conceive children.
Ppen at February 20, 2009 10:30 AM
Perhaps in addition to losing licenses, fertility docs should be made financially liable (ie, child support) for any non-identical triplets or greater multiples. That'd certainly make them think twice about putting a batch o' embryos in anyone.
Larisa at February 20, 2009 10:32 AM
And Suleman makes 3. Just cause the women is a nut doesn't invalidate her rather extreme pro life stance. As far as support I don't mean talk I mean pro lifers getting IVF.

Just to add one more to the list. Pro lifer who had IVF. Not to mention the number of them who had it and just kept quite. Ask yourself this if one of you mom coalition members had IVF why would she share this fact knowing how yall feel about it?
vlad at February 20, 2009 11:43 AM
"I don't find it "pro-life" at all for a single" Our personal view of the term doesn't not change it's general definition.
vlad at February 20, 2009 11:44 AM
Anyone using this horrible example of a human being as fodder for their own political views is out to lunch. She's an outlier in every sense of the term. You don't make good public policy based on outliers.
I for one don't care how many kids she chooses to have, and I don't care what method she uses to get pregnant. My only problem is that she expects the rest of us to pay for her choices.
P at February 20, 2009 12:14 PM
You don't make good public policy based on outliers.
I wasn't saying that. But if you followed Bush, the right-to-lifers and the christian right wingers that say a fertilized egg is a life; then by logical extension, no leftover IVF could be destroyed and would have to be used in some form or fashion that went to them being born. So her having the children, and not wasting them or allowing them to be used for science is the logical extension of the argument, being one at a time or all at once.
Jim P. at February 20, 2009 2:51 PM
The Gosselins didn't use IVF, vlad - she got hopped up on fertility drugs and they boinked. Let us just say there is much discussion in various circles about whether they were aware her ovaries were overstimulated. You only get super-high-multiples through IVF by being really, really moronic.
I don't find it "pro-life" at all for a single, disabled (or "disabled") woman on welfare to have 14 children. In fact, I find it anti-child.
You know, if she had just wanted a houseful of kids, she could have gotten certified and taken in foster kids. If she had really wanted to pass on her genes as much as possible, she could have donated eggs. If she wanted to experience pregnancy multiple times, she could have been a surrogate. All of these alternatives would have involved legitimate payments that she had earned. Instead, she decided that she had to do all three at once, and thus created a family of fatherless kids with dim futures, including eight who will cost millions before they're three months old.
Although, I have a confession to make - I bought the "People" magazine with Suleman in it. But I didn't know she was in it, I swear! There was a picture of Capt. Sully, my hero, on the cover, holding an adorable baby (the youngest of the passengers on that flight) wrapped in a red towel. The staff at "People" is smart - that cover was irresistible. The article about the flight is good, too. (Yes, I looked at the Suleman article. Her babies look amazingly healthy for preemie octuplets - which mean that they look scrawny and sickly compared to normal babies, especially compared to the chubby baby on the magazine cover.)
marion at February 20, 2009 5:23 PM
I said 3 IVFers, Vlad. There are some families that got preggers with litters before Drs knew how to control ovary stimulation drugs better. Whether or not John and Kate intentionally had sex on a high month or not I don't know. But they did not create a ton of embryos in a lab and then say "Oops, gotta use them up now!"
Suleman is not a right to lifer. She's a whack job. Period. No sane person would have done what she did.
momof3 at February 20, 2009 5:39 PM
Her buying the MAC cosmetics reminds me of this time I was behind a lady with a baby at the grocery store. She was arguing that her food stamps should cover her child's cough syrup. It was something like $4. The clerk tried again and again, but it kept getting rejected. Finally, the lady pulled the cash out of her Dolce & Gabbana purse. If I didn't have to buy food, I could afford designer labels, too.
Amy K. at February 20, 2009 5:52 PM
In a twisted way, isn't Suleman the poster girl for the Obama presidency:
- It's all about me
- Unaccountability is cool!
- Hey, the community can come together and support me
Robert W. at February 20, 2009 9:54 PM
This woman is a freak show, there is nothing unusual about that. What is unusual is that a licensed medical doctor, presumably for a fee, impregnated said freak show with a litter of 8 kids. Since there is no father to speak of, I suggest that Doc Oc ought to pony up for the care and support of these unfelicitous whelps since he is the only sane person with any responsibility in this matter.
As for RTL issues, if one starts with the premise that all men are created equal and that each of us enjoys certain unalienable rights, I guess it comes down to whom you decide is human. Not being God, I'd err on the side of safety by not taking any human life that wasn't absolutely necessary. I'd also suggest to people who want huge families, that can't naturally produce them, to adopt. There are more than enough kids just waiting around for a home.
