Christine O'Donnell's Anti-Masturbation Campaign
There's some stuff in the news that just seems too trivial or ridiculous to pay attention to, like the campaign of some religious right chick in...Delaware, I think?...Christine O'Donnell, that I've seen the right and left ridiculing. This little anti-masturbation vid did make me smile:

So. Many. Issues.
Seriously, there are more problems with the thinking in that minute-and-a-half than I even care to address.
There was obviously no kind of polling data by this club, because I have a hard time believing they found men that said they have no need of sex with women because they can masturbate. And I wonder if O'Donnell realizes that "if he's pleasuring himself, why am I here?" seems to imply that women are only keeping their men with sex. But, they're married already, so what does it matter? That's a slippery slope, Christine.
It's also hilarious (in a horrifying way) that O'Donnell characterizes AIDS and "other problems" as happening in sex outside of marriage. Because I'm sure no married woman ever got an STI from her husband (or vice versa). And that couples who aren't married can't have safe sex in a monogamous relationship. That legal certificate sure carries a lot of medical protection with it. I guess my biggest problem with this part is the automatic sanctity of marriage. Like just the act itself will get you through the rest of your life with no problems, no actual thinking required. Marriage is only what you make it, folks.
The whole spiel about masturbation being selfish and lustful and therefore morally wrong irritates the holy hell out of me. But then, I'm not one to take "it says in the Bible..." as the end of an argument. Why is it wrong? Sure, it's lustful, but it's also biological. And, yes, it is better to work out those urges yourself as opposed to repressing them and then getting pregnant at fifteen, as has been the recent trend with the purity club types.
Also, did anyone else find Ms. Maddow's statement about "not you-know-what-ing when they're alone" funny? Because, hell, if that's Christine O'Donnell's solution, then I'm game.

To be fair, I do know of relationships where the people involved spent more time masturbating than with each other. Dan Savage also talks about the dangers of getting too used to the death grip.

If you make yourself smile is that self amuse?
Personally, I'd like to give Christine a hand to help her get elected.

I never heard of her till a couple days ago, or I heard about her before I forgot her, but from the deluge of articles about her sounds like she made some bad decisions about men in her youth that colors her current actions.

There's so much stuff I wish I could clear out of my brain -- like knowing who Gordie Howe is, for example (Detroit hockey dude). In a similar vein, here's something my friend Etel sent me from Sherlock Holmes the other day. I believe Sherlock is talking:

She's fairly hot.
I forsee this video being used as fuel to not practice what she's preaching.

There's a line that I like to draw myself, between what I believe in and the respect I still hold for those who believe differently, but only as far as they don't overdo it (can't stand the activists). I'm still debating in which category I'll file Ms O'Donnell.
But there's one thing I definitely like of her: she's seemingly not one of the elitist I-know-much-better-than-thou liberal intellectual social-engineers that have a quasi monopoly in politics. So that part is refreshing.

She should get a pass on this one- we all have said a lot of stupid shit in our 20's too. That doesn't mean I think she's qualified to be on the banking or foreign affair's committee though.
-aside- One of my buddies married a woman who believes "flogging the dolphin" is cheating on her. He still has the largest porn collection known to man, only now it's digitized.

"Why am I here?" Because most guys aren't all that flexible, darlin'.
She's consistently said a lot of stupid stuff over the years: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/the_top_ten_christine_odonnell_quotes.php?ref=fpb
But whatever -- if Republicans want to send candidates like this up against Dems, I'm all for it.

Thanksgiving must be fun with the O'Donnell family:

Her 80's hair was really COOL.
Does anyone know, does she still think this stuff? I was happy that a Tea Party candidate beat a Republican old guard codger, but now I'm disappointed to think she might be a complete nutjob herself. Is this the best Delaware can do? (Aside from the 80's hair. You know Redken must have made a fortune in those days!)

That woman needs to get laid, well, hard, and long.

"What the deuce is it to me?" he interrupted impatiently: "you say that we go round the sun. If we went round the moon it would not make a pennyworth of difference to me or to my work."

I remember that passage of Doyle's, but I've never understood it.
Aren't ALL true sciences useful in detective work, sooner or later? (At the very least, knowing the facts of science that every schoolchild knows could help Holmes to uncover someone who only pretends to be a scientist but who reveals ignorance.)
