The Sunny Side Of Racism
That's when racism is painted as a progressive policy. A. Barton Hinckle reports at reason of Somerville Place, a blacks-only dorm floor at USC. Shocking. And I can't understand why racism seems okay to blacks and university administrators as long as they're excluding whites and others. Hinckle writes:
Says USC, "The goals of Somerville Place aim to foster an understanding of and respect for Black culture."...Somerville is not unique. Voluntary racial balkanization has greatly advanced in recent years, and rare is the major institution without a diversity office premised on the idea that people of different races bring with them different traits. As Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor famously put it, "a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
Some might say this is far different from the racialism of the Jim Crow South--that Sotomayor spoke of experiences people live as a result of their ethnicity, not traits they are born with. And there is something to this. But it also would imply that, at some point in a happier future, the need for racial head-counting would disappear as people cease to experience disparate treatment. To the contrary: Diversity programs will always be needed, one gathers, even when discrimination no longer exists.
They say Somerville is for students "of African descent." Well, Steven Pinker writes in The Blank Slate that "...Men are not from Mars, nor are women from Venus. Men and women are from Africa, the cradle of our evolution."
Hmmm...seems, if you go by the book, even whitey can get onto that floor. And what of South African actress Charlize Theron? She is more "of African descent" than a friend of mine who is black like dark chocolate but comes from a family that's long been in the Caribbean. How does one judge who's "African" enough?

The Janjaweed consider themselves "Arab" and the people they rape/persecute "Black". In actuality they are both "black" and pretty much come from the same stock.
I remember reading this fascinating book about this guy who traveled all of africa. Apparently Ethiopians refereed to themselves as white, europeans as pink and other Africans as black.
Black is pretty subjective.

This has pissed me off for so long..... I am a child of the '60's, I grew up in a middle class, blue collar neighborhood on the Northside of Pittsburgh PA. I believed Dr Martin Luther King Jr when he said we should all be judged by our character, not our color, and have always lived by that code.
Why, then, am I repeatedly told thru the media, workplace seminars, etc, that simply by being a certain color I am responsible for all the ills of the universe, and need to attone by taking a less well paying job, buying a smaller home, driving a crappier car, you name it, I've heard the stupidest things.
I don't give a flying, flaming rat's ass if a person is purple with pink polka dots and orange tie-dye hair. As long and they are honest, considerate, kind to small children and animals and watch Looney Toons often enough to know who Marvin the Martian is, we are cool.

Frankly, if you need a diversity program to get into college, you're probably not smart enough to be there in the first place.
As to the rest, Sotomayer is a moron and a racist, and I don't give a flying fuck about race, since I refuse to acknowledge any race but "Human".

USC is private, so it can do what it likes.
I'm the sort who treats others as they treat me. If a group wants to be left alone, I'm OK with that. If I wanted to run someone else's life, I'd have been a politician.
Just don't ask me to believe that preferential treatment can coexist with equality. You're equal or special. Not both.

Blacks are really the only racial group to have taken up self segregation on campuses so enthusiastically. But truth be told, they also tend to be the most racist. Black culture never really caught up to the rest of the country when it comes to racial attitudes. In fairness, racism has been promoted to them as a necessary aspect of 'black pride', since back when the Left thought that they could use blacks as shock troops in the revolution.
Multiculturalism is basically an attempt to rehabilitate the doctrines of white supremacy in an administrative form. The arrangements that it confers don't make sense unless you assume a hierarchy of racial and ethnic superiority. The fact of whether this hierarchy arises from biology or the social environment is immaterial. It's still a system of racial segregation that prescribes how individuals may identify and what their roles in society may be.

An Australian journalist is currently in court over this and another column
http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/column_white_is_the_new_black
Note the photos. These people are claiming preferment because they are indigenous Aborigines (think Native American, but blacker than most Africans). His point was simply that how can they be suffering persecution when you couldn't pick them out on the street? And yet he's been dragged into court under a "Racial Discrimination Act" by a number of people he named because he dissed them, effectively. It's disgusting, especially when there are real people who don't move in these exalted circles who are actually in trouble.
So the self-proclaimed get the awards, grants, and jobs. How racist is that? But it's not even legal to say that here.

The other column

It's well worth reading. Bear in mind these are people claiming special privilege because of the prejudice against blacks they have suffered.

This is a point I keep raising over and over...as we live in a country, and (thankfully) a culture that cares less and less about inter-racial couples, when is this going to end? We have several friends who are married, have kids, and are of different ethnic groups. So when my friends' child, who is half white and half Latina, marries my other friends' child who is half white and half Chinese....uh...what racial/ethnic group is that kid going to be?? And more importantly, who f*cking CARES?!
I have visions of people having to do DNA swabs to prove how "black" or "Latino" they are. And even then...what percentage is going to count as "black enough"? 50%? 40%? Because there are a lot of people out there who call themselves African American who aren't even 50% "black"...

Anyone ever see he anthony Hopkins movie The Human Stain?
College proffer complaigns about absentees students, little known geographically isolated definition of one of the words is deliberaly misconstrued as a racial slur so Hokins charecter is fired. The twist of the story is he was a light enough to be white skinned black man
Also how long until someone hangs a white only sign up somewhere in protest?
lujlp at April 18, 2011 1:11 PM
Personally, I don't care if someone wants a black only fraternity. It's makes for good college movies...

So let's see... as a male, I am not permitted to judge a person of the opposite gender by appearance. But as a white person, I am required to judge a person of the "opposite" race entirely by their skin color; it is supposed to tell me everything that I need to know about them.
So what do I do when I come across a black woman?
Cousin Dave at April 18, 2011 5:12 PM
Cousin Dave, I almost, *almost* spit my diet Mt Dew all over my keyboard at that one, but then, I love horrible puns and dirty jokes, so I may have seen something you didn't intend. If so, I appologize.
Oh, hell, no I don't, I laughed my ass off.

Darn it Kat, you made me forget what I was going to say next.
