Boycott Urban Thief-fitters
Pretty scummy. It appears they search out designs by independent artists, knock them off, and sell them at a premium. Details here.

Wow. And I was going to stop by Anthropologie during lunch today because it's next to the bookstore.
I didn't realize that Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie were the same company.
I'm glad someone busted them.

You see these shenanigans all the time on Etsy. And as long as the thief's store is succesful/ popular the admins won't do a famn thing. Well, that's not true. They will gag you in the forums for pointing out stolen work. Regretsy (in addition to being funny as hell) does however send in their legion of fans when they find something truly egregious.
Amy, if you don't read Regretsy.com already you should check it out. It's full of the clever snarking and good human nature I think you'd get a kick out of.

It's my understanding that Etsy is basically done and now they're looking for someone to buy them as an online catalog for standard retailers. Their numbers have collapsed and the membership is fleeing/flown. They'd apparently become very heavy handed with the membership and alienated a lot of people, and something happened to kill their search discoverability.

Yes, I know they've done this before, so it seems easy to point fingers at them, but the design in question was around before the Etsy artist.

Thanks for mentioning Regretsy, Elle.

It's not like this was such an original idea, to be honest. You can't really copyright the shape of a US state, and while the artist could have patented it, I'm not sure that the patent would be defensible.
Some of the other things that UO has allegedlu "copied" aren't all that similar.
And one etsy artist is using a Star Wars design

Shoddy work, left side of the left indentation isnt uniformly rounded and the out side tips need to taper to a point just beyond the end of the center stalks triangular tip.
The only thing worse then a knock off is a shity knock off
