Common Sense Has Been Suspended Until Further Notice
If the story is true. Now, normally, I would pass on a story like this because it lacks information and seems sort of unbelievable. I'm posting it because in the current climate of paranoia, PC, and zero tolerance, it has a ring of truth to it. It could happen.
Via @mpetrie, a Gaston County, North Carolina mother says her 9-year-old son was suspended for calling a teacher "cute":
Chiquita Lockett said her 9-year-old son, Emanyea, spent the last two days at home.Lockett said the principal of Brookside Elementary called her Wednesday to say the incident was a form of "sexual harassment."
...A district spokeswoman said she could not go into detail, but said Emanyea was suspended for "inappropriate behavior" after making "inappropriate statements."

Has anyone noticed a trend in all this zero-tolerance nonsense?
All the school principals and teachers are women.

Say hello to Mr. Jerry Bostic, principal of Brookside Elementary:
http://www.gaston.k12.nc.us/schools/brookside/administration/Pages/welcome.aspx
It looks like women have a monopoly on teaching positions at this school, but not on PC, paranoia, mindless bureaucracy, or substituting rules for reason.

Divorce culture.
That's the only explanation for this madness.
It's the only conceivable force so bitter that it would seek to expunge every feeling of affection, let alone sexuality, from young hearts.

In 2nd grade I was madly in love with my teacher, Miss Nishikan. I brought her those 39 cent Whitmans samplers for each holiday and told everyone I was going to marry her someday. This went on for two or three years.
Now they call that stalking.
PS- My 2nd grade boy is madly in love with his drama teacher, who I must admit is hot.

I love these stories, because they confirm my opinion of the modern era's idiocy, and the evil of zero tolerance but this story is a bit thinly sourced.
We have the mother's and her kid's side, but nothing else to confirm.
I want to believe the school is another zero tolerance hell house,
I want to introduce the principal to my equalizer, "Zero Tolerance",
But I am forced to concede it may not be as simple as the mother states.
Regardless, get a stick and some pitch, or help with this rail and a grab a bucket of tar or feathers, and let's all shout at the OWS mob.
I do want to believe it's true though.

"But I am forced to concede it may not be as simple as the mother states."
It is this simple - a grown man is considering a 9-year-old guilty of sexual harrassment i.e he thinks the child was acting sexually. The term for that is "sexualization" - the principle and presumably the complaining teacher have sexualized this child. That alone identifies them as perverts and they have no business being anywhere around children.

That's crazy! I'm so thankful I grew up before all of this crazy PC crap...I had a wicked crush on one of my teachers (I was 13/14) and he knew it...no doubt I'd be expelled now...

Zero tolerance is and always has been the province of the bitybrained bureaurat. The public schools are the prime example.

Ok, so guess what... this isn't as clear cut as it looks. The "letter" they sent to his mother:

I'm guessing that kid is black and is emulating his role models (or lack of them) and saying things that he hears the adults using them.
Jim P. at December 5, 2011 9:27 PM
Re: E. Steven Berkimer: Wow, if that's accurate, that's really sad. I can imagine that kind of behavior/language from a teenager or near-teen, but from a 9 year old (who's using them apparently intentionally and with malice, not just repeating things to get a rise)? Wow.
Lyssa at December 6, 2011 6:18 AM
@Lyssa,
Agreed, it is sad. But with the hypersexualized culture we have now, along with the fact that no father is mentioned anywhere I can find for this situation, I see an out of control kid who likely will only get worse. Mom isn't going to be a big help, when she isn't willing to put any blame on the boy, and only on the school.
E. Steven Berkimer at December 6, 2011 8:14 AM
Note that the letter is addressed to "Dear Marshall Wiley and Chiquita Lockett". Maybe this Wiley guy is the baby-daddy, and Emanyea is following his example. Sad.

So, we have a kid who said fine instead of cute, and was all but accused of lying about what he sai when he said fine meant cute.
An unsubstatiaded accusation of the use of the word nigger - and given his name he ould be black himself
And he once called a girt a bitch. When I was eight the class suck up was this bitch named Sally who when she wanted attention would throw something at the teacher and then blame the boy in front of her his name was Kevin and one day Kevin got susspended because the rock Sally brought to class drew blood when it hit the teacher
And finally this kid "admitted" to bad behavior in a meeting between him ad a few adults none of which were his parent or gaurdian - we have no proof of what was said or what the princaple promised/threatened to prokove or steer the childs responses

No punishment is harsh enough to discourage this type of "verbal rape." We must remember that the vile compliment was directed by a male toward ... a woman! One of those fragile, delicate creatures whose refined sensibilities are so easily offended. She MUST be protected from this awful display of horrid male sexuality. Think of the potential havoc this will wreak on her tender feminine psyche!
I am having a fit of the vapors just thinking about it ....

Here is the update, in which we find it pretty much happened exactly as the mother and kid said.
Update at 4:41 p.m. on Tuesday: Here is a statement from Gaston County school system, which says the sexual harassment charge was not warranted in this case:
“After a thorough investigation by school officials involving the suspension of a fourth grade student at one of our elementary schools, it has been determined there was no sexual harassment. We regret this situation happened. The superintendent has attempted to contact the family to offer an apology to the parents and student. The school system is also sending an official letter of apology to the parents and student. The suspension will not count against the student and additional instructional assistance will be provided to the student for the classroom time missed.

No more zero tolerance for ex-Principal Bostic - "He told the Gaston Gazette the Gaston County School District gave him 1 hour to decide whether to quit or be fired":
