I Know You Are But What Am I?
At an LA Occupy rally this weekend, the President's mouth-breathing former Green Jobs czar Van Jones painted libertarians as the next best thing to the KKK:
"They say they're Patriots but they hate everybody in America who looks like us. They say they love America but they hate the people, the brown folk, the gays, the lesbians, the people with piercings, ya know ya'll.""They love going to New York City! [sarcastically] I just had to take my child to see America's beauty." Jones then referenced the Statue of Liberty and fumed "You can't be an anti-immigrant bigot and a Patriot at the same time."
In reason, Mike Rigg factchecks his ass:
You're not talking about so-called libertarians, but your former boss and current president. See, it's Barack Obama who supports "traditional marriage"; Barack Obama who supports a drug war that sends an alarming number of black men to prison and destroys their employment prospects; Barack Obama who supports a foreign policy that kills children; Barack Obama who supports regulatory barriers that require the poorest of the poor to borrow their way into the workforce; Barack Obama who supports an immigration strategy that rips apart families and sees the children of undocumented workers put up for adoption.Whether Obama's support for those policies means he hates gays or brown folk is not for me to say. As the scriptures tell us, "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?"
Libertarians, on the other hand, love brown folk, the gays, the lesbians, the people with piercings, and immigrants. Many of us, after all, fit rather neatly into those categories, and we show our affection for ourselves and our neighbors by supporting the right of all peoples to live free of state-sponsored violence, discrimination, undue imprisonment, and theft; as well as the entirely predictable consequences of both left-wing and right-wing social engineering.
Be sure to read the great end line about Ed Norton on Riggs' reason blog item at the link.
Interesting thoughts on libertarianism here at Cato, from John Tomasi and Matt Zwolinksi.

> Libertarians, on the other hand, love brown folk, the gays, the lesbians, the people with piercings, and immigrants.
Amen.
I run a small business. I hire people who want to do the work, and can do it well.
I've hired native born Americans, foreigners with Green cards, men, women, college educated, high school drop outs, heteros, homos (I think), a guy who wore a skirt, whites, blacks, and hispanics.
You've got a work ethic? You can do the work I need? Welcome to America, welcome to my company, punch in over there, grab a free soda from the fridge, and get down to it. Payday is every other Wednesday.
Oh, and if you want to take a firearms safety class, the firm will pay for that.

We see and are going to see many stories about conservatives and libertarians being tribal, racist, dogmatic, and clinging to the status quo because they cannot process new information.
Progressives have hit on an amazing tactic. They act in stupid, doctrinaire, grasping, controlling ways. Then, they accuse conservative and libertarian opponents of doing exactly that.
I used to think that this was a ridiculous position. Progressives would show themselves to be hypocrites. But, when they are so accused, they reply that conservatives are so stupid and lacking in arguments, that they can only mindlessly repeat back the accusations that were just directed at them.

The problem for "progressives" is that it's becoming obvious that Obama is in over his head.
He's confusing politics with policy-making, rhetoric with action, and bellicosity with conviction.
Obama has no accomplishments of merit for his reelection campaign. He and his defenders have no choice but to go on the offensive with name-calling, fear-mongering, and hatred-spewing.
Reid and Pelosi got Obamacare passed ... and those two legislative geniuses forgot to put the customary severability clause in the 2,700 pages. That means if the mandate portion is knocked down by the SCOTUS, the entire law could be invalidated.
His last two budget proposals were were dead on arrival (even in the Democrat-dominated Senate). Having no serious contribution to make to the discussion of the expanding debt and looming financial crisis, he can only kvetch on the sidelines about the House GOP budget, which while not perfect by any means, at least attempts to address the problem.
His green initiatives are falling flat as showcase company after showcase company is going bankrupt despite millions of dollars in government loan guarantees. Chevy Volt production is on "temporary" hiatus due to lower-than-expected demand.
From Peter Wehner in Commentary:
For a guest lecturer on Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago, he displays a distressing lack of familiarity with Constitutional Law.
Holder is being called before a judge to "clarify" Obama's remarks. Co-equal branches of government don't like it when presidents paint them as illegitimate and "unelected" while trying to intimidate them.
Watch for the administration to issue a statement "clarifying" what the president meant and reminding us that he's the "smartest president ever" - despite ample evidence to the contrary.

I'm an independent, conservative on what the Fed can do. I quite frankly don't care what you do personally unless it infringes on me.
I have had two inadvertent discussions over the past few weeks on politics with co-workers. One co-worker couldn't grasp how damaging the Dept of Ed is. She thought we still needed some central authority. The other didn't know that marriage, education and several other things that weren't in the Constitution. I need a stack of pocket Constitutions to hand out. :-)

"Progressives have hit on an amazing tactic. They act in stupid, doctrinaire, grasping, controlling ways. Then, they accuse conservative and libertarian opponents of doing exactly that."
Actually I believe it is because they have a stranglehold on the groups that diseminate information. the media, entertainment and educators.
If every day your average Joe only hears the evils that Republicans do while a complete whitewash or coverup of any Democratic wrong.
Unfortunately most people get their info from comedy satire and baised news, than from reality. So more think Tina Fey, quotes came from Palin, then things Palin actually said. And people view this Travon stuff as what the media portrais it. A white Repubican, killed a defenseless 12 yr old black child while saying racist epitaths.
Weeks later the truth is slowly leaking out, but by this point people have already made up their minds and tune new info out.
While the truth is nowhere near that.

And the "clarification" begins:

It's also projection, a classic defensive tactic of the cluster B personality disorders. Remember, leftism is the politics of narcissism.
