From Whom Are We In More Danger At Airports, John Or Jane Q. Citizen, Or TSA Workers?
A man who, by the sound of it, has serious mental problems apparently had no problem passing the screening to become a TSA worker. Lisa Simeone blogs at TSANewsBlog:
TSA screener Christopher Wilkie would seem to be a walking time bomb. The 43-year-old was arraigned in court yesterday in Connecticut for allegedly hitting his 75-year-old mother. This came a day after he was charged with a different crime -- harassing and threatening his psychiatrist. Wilkie is a TSA agent at JFK International Airport in New York.

...and yet stable, educated applicants in the private sector are invariably "overqualified."

Well, yeah. They don't want anybody who can THINK.

Look. Just because he's dangerously unstable at home, and at his shrink's does not mean he's not a exemplary, valued, and well-regarded TSA employee.

Don't you expect the TSA to screen it's employees for mental instability?
How else would they such great employees?

Can we be honest here? public sector employees who receive psychological screening get paid money that reflects the vigorous screening methods. its like talking out of bothsides of your mouth when you say "we pay too much money to this over bloated agency" and then complain about poor quality hires. Do you want to give them more money to hire quality applicants?
Psychological screening is junk science anyway. Look the NYPD for example, they just had an officer busted for plotting to abduct and EAT women.
