Saw this over at Instapundit this afternoon. I'd try to explain it, but I can't, really: Images of molecules and molecular bonds, taken with an atomic force microscope. As the article says, the images really do look a lot like what we all saw in our chemistry textbooks back in the day.

Rest in peace, Jean Stapleton, who died on the 31st of May. She was 90.
Edith Bunker was, without a doubt, the noblest character to appear on television.

Boys become queer when they lack hand-eye coordination.

I wouldn't agree with that, Patrick, but I remember a few scenes from that show that as a child rocked my world. 2 that come to mind:
1.) "Aw Jeez. They blew him up." About the JDL character that showed up when someone painted a swastika on the Bunker's door. I remember the actor, but I don't remember his name.
2.) The rape scene where Edith almost got raped. I think she threw boiling water on him. After that I (as a young boy\child} wasn't allowed to see the show.
A very powerful show when we were growing up. Right after 60 minutes! Then the Jefferson's. Or Alice? It was the best TV night of the week.

Does anyone else here remeber when McClean Stevenson was killed off M*A*S*H*? My family cried liked it was an unexpectandly phone call that Grandma just died unexpectandly.
Brothers of highly fecund women were also shown to have a higher rate of homosexuality, according to some study I can't be bothered to attempt to google. There was some theory about hormone levels, but I can't remember details.

I'll stand by my assessment, Eric. Particularly since you state that you don't agree with my statement, but have failed to produce an example of a more noble character.
Edith, despite being what Archie called "a dingbat," was actually quite wise. She was surprisingly insightful. For instance, she had a profound understanding of the relationship between Archie and his son-in-law Mike.
While she was fully capable of ire at her husband, even "stifling" him when needed, her loyalty and devotion to him was never in doubt and she would defend him from anyone, even her daughter.
She was truly his "better half." She was simply too good for the world.
The episode in which Edith was molested was Edith's 50th birthday. She was alone at home and was baking her own birthday cake, unaware that her relatives were actually planning a surprise party for her.
While the molester was occupied with forcing himself on her, they became aware of the smell of smoke. Edith's cake was burning, since she was unable to attend to it. Frustrated to tears at the ruins of her cake, when the molester told her to get rid of it, she did. And he got a faceful of burning cake. (It was not boiling water.)
Edith had initially refused to go to the police station to identify the apprehended man who assaulted her, not wishing to see him again. Gloria forcefully reprimanded her mother for her cowardice. After slapping Gloria and immediately apologizing, Edith realized that Gloria was right and finally went to the police station.

The most consistent statistic in determining male homosexuality remains the "older brother" theory.
The more older brothers a guy has, the more likely he will be homosexual.

There was one study that found many of the last born male children of a multiple birth family had about a 50% higher chance of being gay.
