A Tale Of Two Cities
Downtown LA has some pretty spectacular sights. Unfortunately, getting down there at a time that is not 3 a.m. can be hellish, thanks to LA traffic and a lack of train transportation running citywide (like in Manhattan).
Last night, two friends and I went downtown to an art opening/event called ArtSail at KGB gallery, near Chinatown, with some pretty affordable and interesting art. Across the street was what looked (from ab open door around the other side) like an artist's first floor loftspace. This was painted on the back.

I thought L.A. had a pretty good subway/rail system. I just looked at a map and while it's far superior to what Seattle has (one line from downtown south to the airport, with a line to the U of Washington under construction) it's certainly not has comprehensive as -- as you pointed out - Manhattan (or Paris), and I see that the Expo line stops at Culver City instead of continuing on to Santa Monica/Venice. Are there new lines and/or extensions planned?
In San Francisco, Muni rail coverage is fairly decent if you live in the southern part of the city but there are no lines (except for the F line, the cool old trolleys that run along the waterfront to Fisherman's Wharf) if you live north of Market St./Haight/Golden Gate Park.
Thanks for the photo. Cool mural. I love murals like that. I really like the Mission District murals in S.F., especially the ones in Clarion Alley.
Coincidentally, a local TV program just had a segment last night about an organization called Urban Artworks which has painted a lot of murals in Seattle. They use teenagers and most, if not all, are troubled teens and painting the murals gives them focus and a sense of accomplishment.
