Was Anyone Under The Impression That George Stephanopoulos Is Impartial?
Andrew Stiles writes at the Free Beacon:
ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos donated $50,000 to the Clinton Foundation in recent years, records show. The contribution is publicly available information, but the host had not previously disclosed it to ABC viewers, despite taking part in on-air discussions about the Clinton Foundation and its controversial relationship with foreign donors.Stephanopoulos, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, confirmed the donation to POLITICO's Dylan Byers after the Free Beacon contacted ABC News for comment. The host, who acknowledged making two donations of $25,000 between 2013 and 2014, issued a statement of apology for failing to disclose his contributions.
"I made charitable donations to the Foundation in support of the work they're doing on global AIDS prevention and deforestation, causes I care about deeply," Stephanopolous said. "I thought that my contributions were a matter of public record. However, in hindsight, I should have taken the extra step of personally disclosing my donations to my employer and to the viewers on air during the recent news stories about the Foundation. I apologize."
ABC News issued a statement of support for Stephanopoulos, while acknowledging that he should have disclosed the donations.
And actually, it was really $75K.
Sorry...does anyone, even anyone with money, really...oopsy...forget forking over $75K?
It's not like when I leave a dollar in my computer bag pocket.
The thing is, well, there's this from the article:
Stephanopoulos's recent coverage of the topic has been challenged by critics who question his objectivity as a longtime Clinton aide.
I don't question his objectivity. I assume that he -- along with other newsheads -- lacks it, unless there's a good deal to show otherwise.

The donations "happened a long time ago" and "what difference does it make now", besides there's "not a shred of evidence" of wrong doing.
Get used to the above because that's about all we are going to hear during the upcoming months.
"They do good works" so where's the beef?

Gee, it would have been nice if he'd disclosed that sooner...

I wonder at what point you have to stop calling a foundation a charity, from things I'm hearing the $ that's used toward the actual stated problem is less than 10%.

I continue to stand in awe at the amount of bullshit the Clintons and their allies manage to get away with simply by invoking the vast right wing conspiracy. Hell, they don't even have to do that anymore: the media will take care of it for them.

you may not, but there are a vast group of people who watch the news that assume a person who reads news, at least strives to put their own feelings aside to report it.
We all know about the impropriety of new people supporting candidates that they also write stories for, and also the APPEARANCE of impropriety for guys who don't just support a little, but a lot, and then act like they are impartial...
This sort of thing SHOULD BE against ABC policy, and it might be...
But hiring this guy in the first place to do anything but opinion pieces shows the score.
In any case, if he claims to be unbiased? Then he should be BBQ'd over this, very real, impropriety.
You can't give a huge amount of money to a person, and then act like your reporting of a scandal is conscientious.

He remained a political operative. The only change was the company name on the paycheck.
Just for grins, ask one of these characters what the strongest argument against their position is. You will get hemming and hawing and blank stares. It's a religion, and if you're opposed, you're a heretic.

Do you have some instance of his blatant partisanship in his news reporting, or is this just something we "know" to be true, because God knows we didn't have a single clue as to his political leanings before this came out?
Is there some scandal here? Are we now shocked and outraged over who's on the Fox News payroll, such as Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich?

Don't tell me you are a Clinton apologist too Patrick?

I thought the guy was just a spokespersons and delivery bicyclist for Jimmy John's sandwiches.

The media donating to politicians is a de facto conflict of interest.
Used to be beyond the pale. Most ethical journalists did not even register to vote, or if they did, registered as an independent.
Now corruption and the media in bed with the politicians is just business as usual.

C'mon, Patrick. It's not that he donated, it's that he donated and then grilled an author of a book criticizing the charity without disclosing the relationship. That's a violation of Journalism ethics 101.

CBS News president David Rhodes has a brother named Ben who is Obama's deputy national security adviser for strategic communication, especially concerning the Middle East. Ben Rhodes wrote Obama's infamous Cairo speech. His brother is the CBS News president. It speaks for itself. Now we know that Ben Rhodes was a key player in revising the Benghazi talking points last September. So does it make perfect sense that his brother would carry the agenda of his brother? His brother at CBS News? If your brother's writing Obama's speeches, if your brother is moderating, monitoring and altering the talking points, and you're at CBS News, what you are gonna do, you gonna expose the talking points as fraudulent? No way. Try this. The president of ABC News's sister also works for Obama. Ben Sherwood, ABC News president, sister Elizabeth Sherwood Randall, special assistant to Barack Obama. She's also a specialist on the Middle East. CNN's deputy bureau chief, Virginia Moseley, is married to Hillary Clinton's former deputy Tom Nides. Tom Nides was Hillary's deputy secretary of state for management and resources. So it's no wonder that Benghazi, along with every other Obama scandal has been soft peddled by CBS, ABC, and CNN. And of course Obama's close relationship with NBC goes without saying. David Gregory, Meet the Press. His wife is one of the chief lawyers, or was, over at Fannie Mae. Do you think they're gonna get honest reporting at NBC about the subprime mortgage scandal? Jay Carney, his wife is Claire Shipman, formerly of CNN, now of ABC. Jay Carney used to work at TIME Magazine. Actually, he worked for Biden. He left TIME Magazine to work for Biden, got bored there, or worked so well there he got promoted to the White House when Gibbs left.
