Breslaw is a fun writer and I understand that her piece needed to have some sarcastic velocity to work. But the article ultimately curdled into a kind of killjoy dreariness – Aunt Polly lecturing Tom Sawyer about coming home dirty. Breslaw is right that smart women should not be too indulgent of Manic Pixie Dream Boyfriends. But a woman who does nothing but work and criticize is a good deal worse.
