No Racial Diversity For Oscar Nominees -- Or The NBA's MVP Award
This wasn't my idea; it came from a Mark J. Perry tweet; but I love it.
@Mark_J_Perry
No Racial Diversity for Oscar Nominees; What About the Lack of Racial Diversity for NBA Most Valuable Player Award?
Yes...where are all the white Jewish women nominated for the NBA's MVP award? And why are none of the Social Justice Warriors demanding that white Jewish women -- and a least at few Chinese girls -- be brought into the NBA?
Will Jada Pinkett Smith boycott NBA games?
As Jada put it about the Oscars:
"Here's what I do know. Begging for acknowledgement, or even asking, diminishes dignity, and diminishes power, and we are a dignified people, and we are powerful, and let's not forget it."
Of course, a bunch of the Oscar voters are old white coots, and maybe they never vote for black people -- except, hmm...what explains last year?
The fact remains that plenty of actors (Kurt Russell, anyone?) and films get the old pass-over at Oscar time for whatever reason -- perhaps because the film wasn't political enough or was too political or because the voters thought all of Meryl Streep's Oscars were lonely for more company.
The fact that Jada is sitting this Oscars out will surely change fuck all. It will get her a little publicity, however, which maybe was the point.
And regarding the NBA, for the record, I can dunk a three-point shot (and yes, I actually know what that is!) if you set the basket up so the rim is at knee level.

I suggest a new category: Best Actress whose name now appears in the small letter credits at the end of the film, when she gets a role at all, but who married a talented man who gets starring roles so she still gets invited to the best parties, and whose son models women's clothes.

Also, Spike Lee used the term "lily white."
Could you imagine the uproar if someone had called the NBA "midnight black" or some other such term?

Lilies have nothing on me. I am Wite-Out white.

"Spike Lee used the term "lily white.""
Spike Lee is a well known racist.

I've been boycotting the Oscars for years, ever since I discovered that the awards were controlled by a bunch of sick progressive fucks with no common sense or taste.
Kind of like the Hugo's.
Isab at January 19, 2016 9:01 AM
Gregg would like to inform you all that he's snubbing the Oscars because he was not nominated.
Amy Alkon at January 19, 2016 9:09 AM
I, too, am boycotting the Oscars.
Actually, I just don't watch them because I find self-congratulatory award shows narcissistic and boring. I don't watch the following either:
I don't even watch my own companies monthly recognition of people who actually work for a living.
Seriously, there are way too many award shows for people who don't actually do anything resembling a real job.

That's "my own company's..."
Oops.

"Seriously, there are way too many award shows for people who don't actually do anything resembling a real job."
Sadly, it minimizes the effort of a bunch of serious actors, without which the story couldn't be told. For every millionaire like Tom Cruise, there are a couple of Vincent D'Onofrios just nailing "lesser" roles. To sell their skills, they have to have a lot of them. The cast of Babylon 5 is amazingly capable. Acting's not just reading a few lines and stepping aside for the stunt.
Watch for some of the players crossing shows, between Dexter, CSI, NCIS, L&O... or look back at Desilu players, appearing in Star Trek after Gunsmoke. When you can DO, you get called!
Radwaste at January 19, 2016 11:15 AM
I freely acknowledge that I am pointlessly carping here, but you can't dunk a 3-point shot; the 3-point line is more than 20 feet from the basket.
Steven at January 19, 2016 11:56 AM
This is SJW thinking at its temper-tantrum best: They are demanding that Chris Rock resign as the Oscars host. So they are trying to fix the lack of racial diversity by... demanding that there be less racial diversity.
SJWs are simply walking, talking balls of anger. They are people who, without anger, would cease to exist.

Diversity is not a question of dumbing it down so you can be nominated as the MVP.
The proper analogy would be naming white players who have made a significant contribution to their teams' successes and wondering why they weren't nominated.
And, yes, there have been some black actors and movies in 2015 that were deserved consideration, Straight Outta Compton comes to mind.
Unfortunately, you can't know if those were considered since the public is only informed of the final nominees. It could be that SOC was considered and lost a close contest to be the nominee.
Conan the Grammarian at January 19, 2016 1:36 PM
I believe (perhaps wrongly) that this award is about whose palms are being greased and how.
Since these 'actors' know this their comments ring false to me.
They obviously do not feel 'rap' is foul or they would be 'protesting' that as well so methinks this is much ado about nothing and says more about them than the award.

I thought the best explanation for movies like Straight outta Compton getting "snubbed" was provided by a columnist who broke down the demographic of the average Academy voter.
He's an over-50 white male (86% over-50, 94% white, 77% male). He's not necessarily racist, it's just that a movie like SOC doesn't resonate with him. Until the Academy is not dominated by older voters, it's not going to nominate many movies that aimed at younger movie goers.
