Victim Chic: Black Students Demanding An On-Campus Blacks-Only Ghetto
There's reverse victimization now, and by that I mean there's power in being a victim, and identity, too.
For feminists, it's often a way to have unearned power, and for black students (or "students of color"), it is as well.
Yes, after so many fought segregation, black students are now demanding it on campuses across America -- "safe spaces" where only blacks can be or go; no white students allowed.
Alec Dent posts at The College Fix:
The requests for segregated spaces are found among some of the demand lists put forth by students who took part in protests this fall alleging their campuses are oppressive, discriminatory, and represent institutionalized racism. The demands have been presented to campus administrators and are chronicled by TheDemands.org, a website run by a racial advocacy group called the Black Liberation Collective.
Not all of the 76 demand lists, each from a different university, seek segregated spaces -- but several do.
At UCLA, the Afrikan Student Union is insisting upon an "Afrikan Diaspora floor" as well as an "Afro-house."
"Black students lack spaces where they feel safe and comfortable," the UCLA demands state. "The Afrikan Diaspora floor is a way for us to connect more to other Black students, the Afrikan Student Union, and the Afro-Am department. The floor should be branded as a safe space for all Black students."
As for the "creation and support of a UCLA Afro-house," the demands state "many Black students cannot afford to live in Westwood with the high prices of rent. An Afro-house would provide a cheaper alternative housing solution for Black students, that would also serve as a safe space for Black Bruins to congregate and learn from each other."
Um, idiots, having black skin doesn't mean you can't afford Westwood; having under-wealthy parents does. This happens -- to blacks and whites.
Should there be "whites only" and "blacks only" drinking fountains, too?
And a warning: Life doesn't come with "safe spaces" for only people with black skin, so you'd best mix with white and other colors of people.
Oh, and there already are "blacks only" spaces for college students: They're called "Morehouse" and "Howard."

I just want to see a group of white students with enough guts to say "yes, we support this - on the condition that there is also a white-only space". That way, the white students would no longer have to worry about offending the overly-sensitive blacks, and could concentrate on their studies.
The Asians, Hispanics, and other groups may also want their own spaces. Hey, we could probably solve this by allowing sororities and fraternities to discriminate on the basis of race.
Yep, we are surely beyond racism now...

In the interests of ending institutionalized racism we must institutionalize racism. Ahh. Now I understand.

Nothing new here -- this was true in the 1970's too. At the very same time as barriers between the races were falling, black students in California were marching for black power and separate facilities.
Back then, one observer summed it up something like this: "Black bigots are calling for segregated facilities... which is what white bigots want. In this day and age, isn't it great to see blacks and whites working alongside for the same cause?"

Where's Jim Crowe when you need him?
Look how diverse our campus is: over there is where the black students go to class and live, over that way is where the Asians are, behind us is Native American land, we've made sure the whites are all commuters.

Funny!
They want "separate but equal" spaces (guess schools will be next).
And of course they must not read "dead white men" stuff and not be subjected to grades (see Ca.'s recent "you do not have to pass High School to graduate High School" law).
No wonder they are pushing for high minimum wages since that's their future.

Prophecy from Fred Reed...
All you have to do is coddle some people and they will kill themselves to help you hold them down.

Afrikan Student Union
Maybe we should, oh, I dunno, round them up and ship them back to Afrika? then they can experience real oppression, up close and personal.

Been tried already IRA. Liberia.
Nigger only spaces? It's an interesting idea. How black do you have to be though? Proper sooty black, or is Obama style cafe latte brown good enough?
Ltw at January 12, 2016 8:32 AM
So does every nationality (or even every brown nationality) get a safe space? Do we get one for Indians (both types) and Mongolians, and Chinese and Arabs and and and and
I'm going into the construction business.

Nope, that won't work; that would be quickest way for whites to get kicked off campus - and no refund on the tuition!
I suspect that most students - of all races, colors, creeds, etc. - are just trying to do their best, get through their classes, learn something, and then get the diploma which is suppose to be the credentials to get a paying job all before the hysterical lynch mob comes after them.
What is needed is for school administrators to consider making higher education about education - not liberal ideas of indoctrination. But, don't hold your breathe waiting for that to happen.

25 years ago. I curl up with a book in an armchair in a student lounge area. Half an hour later, barely registering my surroundings, three angry women are standing over me and telling me I have to leave. I asked - quite reasonably I thought - why? They were conducting a women's self defence class in the (frosted glass plus gauze curtains) room nearby, and said my presence was making people uncomfortable. I tried to say I wasn't interfering and didn't even know a class was happening, asked who had complained so I could apologise, and the response was "do you want us to get someone from the Student Union to eject you?"
I was too young then and walked rather than make more of a scene. I remember being furious to the point of tears. I also got over it without making a complaint. My life wasn't scarred by it :)
The people who harangued me then are likely lecturers now. So good luck in fixing that. The long march has been done.

Ten years from now, distance learning and open source universities will have made this all irrelevant. At that point we can simply build walls around the "safe spaces", throw them food now and then, put in windows and charge people a few bucks to come look. When the safe-spacers complain, we can say, "Hey, you marginalized yourself. Now you have a useful purpose -- you serve as an object lesson to the rest of society."

Maybe it's all part of a plan to divide and conquer.
