Expecting Students To Show Up On Time Is White Supremacy
Blake Neff writes at The Daily Caller of a session at the 17th Annual White Privilege Conference -- yes, there is such a thing, and it's going on through today, in Philly.
One speaker is education consultant and former prof of multi-culti education at Minnesota's St. Cloud State (where she taught future teachers), Dr. Heather Hackman. She "argued at the White Privilege Conference (WPC) in Philadelphia that great teachers must also be liberal activists, and described in detail her goal for destroying the 'white supremacist' nature of modern education."
Neff:
In Hackman's telling, virtually everything associated with being a good student in modern education is actually just a tool of racist white supremacy."The racial narrative of White tends to be like this: Rugged individual, honest, hard-working, disciplined, rigorous, successful," she said. "And so then, the narrative of U.S. public education: Individual assessments, competition, outcome over process (I care more about your grades than how you're doing), 'discipline' where we care more about your attendance and making sure you're not tardy than we care about your relationships ... proper English must be spoken (which is just assimilation into standard U.S. dialect), hierarchical power structure, and heavy goal orientation."While the traits listed may simply be regarded as positive traits for success in the modern world, Hackman described them as specific cultural traits chosen and emphasized to favor whites to the detriment of non-white groups, who are forced to assimilate white traits such as good discipline and goal orientation or else be left behind.
Is there anything more racist than this woman's thinking?

So, if there are black students who arrive at class on time and regularly, get good grades, and speak proper English, will they just be accused of "acting white," or be called "sellouts" and "Uncle Toms"?
Good job of perpetuating the stereotype of black people as lazy, among other things.
And no, teachers are not supposed to check in on how you're doing or concern themselves with your relationships. A teacher's job is to teach; they aren't paid enough, nor do they have the necessary training, to also be the kids' therapists.

As a business man I want:
1. To know when my employees are going to show up. This way we can schedule events between all participants. Can't be trusted to show up when you are needed (or at least communicate an issue beforehand) I don't need you. (discipline)
2. We must be able to communicate. If I'm paying the money I'm not the one who has to learn a new language. If you can't talk to me I will find someone else who can talk to me. (proper English)
3. I have to be able to trust you. If I can't believe what you tell me and if I can't leave you to work on your own without me looking over your shoulder all the time I can find someone else. (honest and outcome over process).
I do not care about relationships. We have a simple one. I tell you what to do and if you do it I give you money. That is the same relationship I have with my customers. If you don't want to do what I say I will not give you money. It is that simple. We are not dating. We are not family. We can both leave at any time. You sell labor. I give money for labor I want. Your feelings, dreams, goals, and all other aspirations are irrelevant.
This is not a 'White' thing. This is a business thing.

I work over Skype with the woman who edits me part-time and with my copyeditor.
Since we are not in the same room -- and especially because of that -- it is essential that we all show up on time. Being able to communicate is absolutely essential.
What's truly racist are the low expectations she expresses for people who aren't white.

" In 2005 she founded Hackman Consulting group and consults nationally on issues of deep diversity, equity and social justice and has focused most of her recent training work on issues of racism and white privilege, gender oppression, heterosexism and homophobia, and classism."
"Her most recent research and conference presentations have focused on climate change and its intersections with issues of race, class and gender."
So she is a SJW and a climate change expert. WOW!

That used to be the narrative of American (white, black, or any other ethnicity). When the race hustlers gained ascendancy, they made "black" culture into what it is today.
Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. didn't get through West Point (where he was shunned by every one of his white classmates) and make general by not being rugged, individual, honest, hard-working, disciplined, and rigorous. When Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. graduated from West Point, there was only one other black serving line officer in the entire US Army, Benjamin O. Davis, Sr. For a while, it was the Davises against the US Army. History will record the Davises won. Davis, Jr.'s Tuskegee Airmen amassed a combat record that was the envy of white squadrons. And I'll bet they were on time (or tried to be) to meet each bomber squadron they escorted into the hostile airspace over Nazi Germany.
The 761st Tank Battalion, the 9th and 10th cavalry regiments (the Buffalo Soldiers), the 54th Massachusetts, and other all-black military units didn't sit around a whine about white supremacy and "acting white." They went out and did their jobs, and did them well.
George Washington Carver was accepted by mail by a college in Kansas, but later rejected when the administration saw that he was black. He didn't become a world-renowned scientist by giving up. He was rugged, hard-working, disciplined, and rigorous. He persevered and was eventually accepted to what is now Iowa State, where he was the school's first black undergraduate student and so impressed the faculty that he was later invited back to become the school's first black graduate student, and eventually its first black professor. He dined with kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers - and I'll bet he was on time for each dinner.
Despite having a PhD, this woman is an idiot and will doom to mediocrity every student whose teachers follower her idiocy.

It's amazing that they think that the average American minority is "process over outcome".
When I was the only white face in a Wendy's last week, I was behind two older African American women. They had the all-black staff fully engaged.
The problem? The food was not made to order.
The second problem? The attempts to remediate it did not involve simply preparing new food correctly.
Oh, but, after the two women left, they had good relationships! They all enjoyed making fun of them. So, I guess one could say - they were solid in their relationships; they were enjoying the process; I guess some ingrained race traitoresses were just holding them to outcome over price due to their Teutonic brainwashing.

So, isn't this just the second generation of the softening of American standards?
Go look at what they have tried to do to engineering - the American Association of University Women should be at the top of the list of culprits, but there are lots of others - the goal was to change engineering from - can you build a circuit? Can you design a bridge that holds the load? Can you do the math? - to - can you write about and explain at length the process that somebody, somewhere, might do to actually do the process?
So this snake oil salesman Dr. Heather Hackman gets her phony PhD in selling this process to the current favored group. As much damage has been done to American competitiveness as possible by turning STEM into writing (veterinary will never recover; God help you if you need a large animal vet, or if you need a vet on a weekend or evening...sort of how your female GP works exactly her hours and exists just to send you to a specialist.), now they will make sure that the minority students never rise up by telling them - it's mean old Whiteness that says you have to be an adult; here, why don't you protest for $15 an hour for doing nothing while I keep you unemployable? Here's a bridge card.
Walter E Williams famously said he got his PhD in Economics when white people hated black people, and that meant he really knew his stuff and could be proud of it. I was unaware that "smash the (white, male, cis) patriarchy" meant "find somebody to patronize and infantilize me".
Same gimmick, new market.
ElVerdeLoco at April 17, 2016 8:18 AM
One wonders whether Dr. Heather Hackman got her PhD via hard work, punctuality, and the like. What did UMass Amherst require her to actually do? And why can't she expect the same things from other races that she demanded from her own Caucasian self?
Old RPM Daddy (OldRPMDaddy at GMail dot com) at April 17, 2016 8:19 AM
To be fair, if they would just three pick out of the five - honest, hard-working, disciplined - they could probably be successful. And even plant life wants to be successful.

Well, since UMASS Amherst expels students for receiving blowjobs while too inebriated to resist, who knows what they were expecting?
They probably required her to not do things and make excuses for not doing them. Preferably excuses that involved blaming the establishment.

Any public servant, especially K-12 teachers, who attends one of these racist seminars should be fired immediately. If going to a Trump (whom I personally despise) rally can get you tagged a racist and probably fired in the near future, then this should qualify as well.

There is a certain personality type that gravitates to this sort of thinking, and for some reason these people tend to be white women.
A friend of mine calls it Jane Goodall syndrome. They're people who see themselves as the mother messiahs of an inferior downtrodden group. They tend to be very patronizing and sanctimonious, and often rather misanthropic.
This woman seems to fit that description. I honestly don't how how her proposals would differ if they came from someone who believed that black are innately inferior to whites.
kunka chunka at April 17, 2016 4:17 PM
Hackman should title her speech: Teachn da chillins alls dey needs ta no ta cash a welfare chek, ands no mo. It what she espouses is what teachers teach their students and those are the values imparted, the students will end up on permanent welfare dependency - and there won't be any $15/hr jobs flipping burgers, because someone who learned those despised "whiteness values" will invent a robot to do those jobs.

Are there any non-SJW-controlled colleges left besides Hillsdale? Even some of the religious schools and the military academies are becoming infested with SJW-ism these days.
Maybe we should start a campaign for businesses to round-file all resumes with degrees from an SJW institution on them. They haven't managed to ban that form of discrimination yet.

From Merriam Webster, Racism is 1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
Which also means an inherent inferiority of other races.
White liberals and progressives are racists to the core. They believe that black people are inferior - unable to adequately provide for themselves, get educations and job skills, and live as equals in a free, civilized society without the help of wise, kind-hearted, superior white people like themselves. They see black people as "the white man's burden".
Ken R at April 18, 2016 1:21 AM
Ken R and others: What evidence do you have that all races are actually equal?
Asians and some Jews dominate hard academic fields. Blacks dominate (most) physical sports.
Every time there is careful measurement, differences appear, and not small ones, either.
Into "diversity"? How the hell has its definition been discarded? Have you noticed the inherent schizophenia of those who claim that differences are good, yet they do not exist?

When I talk to a younger person about work, and I tell them the easiest way to stand out in a good way is:
1. show up on time, or even early. If you are going to be late, make the phone call and let someone in charge know you're running late.
2. do what you're asked as quickly as you can.
3. if you have nothing to do, find something to do.
These things, done reliably, will make you stand out. Especially if the people your competing against (co workers) do not do these things.

Rad,
I don't think your point contradicts Ken's. You can be good at one thing and bad at another. Claiming inherent superiority in all 'important' things is what Ken is railing against. Also there is the issue of deviation from the mean. Just because blacks dominate sports doesn't mean only blacks are in sports or that only blacks should be allowed in sports. Freaks exist and they can be useful.
Telling someone they can't be a scientist because their skin is too dark is a misuse of human capital and racist. Noting that most scientists have pale skin does not imply systemic racism. These two statements are completely compatible.
Both you and Ken noted that schizophrenic argument from the left. We are all the same but we are also all uniquely different. How the hell does that work?

Yep. And also of progressives and liberals who say that the only difference between black people and white people is color, but act like black people are inferior to white people.
