This Used To Be Reason For Institutionalization, Not Reason To Be Sued
I worked with Australians in New York and found them badass -- and have an Australian friend in LA, a tiny and gorgeous woman who is one of the toughest women I know.
But even Australia has been bitten by the SJW bug. From the Brisbane Times:
A university student accused of racial discrimination over a Facebook post has amassed a hefty legal bill, which could blow out to $200,000 if the case goes to trial.Alex Wood is being sued under the Racial Discrimination Act over a 2013 post he wrote after being asked to leave a Queensland University of Technology computer lab reserved for the use of Indigenous students.
"Just got kicked out of the unsigned Indigenous computer room. QUT is stopping segregation with segregation," he posted on a Facebook page called QUT Stalker Space.
The post attracted comments critical of both the incident and the existence of the Indigenous-only space.
"I wonder where the white supremacist lab is," wrote another student, Jackson Powell, who is also being sued.
The third student involved in the lawsuit, Calum Thwaites, has emphatically denied being responsible for a post that included a reference to "ITT N-----s" and has produced a volume of evidence supporting his denial.
The trio are being sued, alongside the university and two staff, by the administration officer who asked Mr Wood to leave the room, Cindy Prior.
An Indigenous woman, Ms Prior went on sick leave following the incident and reports she felt unsafe leaving her home because she was afraid somebody would say something offensive to her.
She also says she was unable to return to work in a role that required her to have face-to-face contact with white people.
Ms Prior is seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.
Not only do you get special privileges, if anyone talks about how they find that unfair, they will be financially ruined. Imagine starting off after school with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt -- not for school loans, but for legal fees because you said something I've said many times on this blog: You don't stop discrimination by discriminating.
And P.S. It's not an original idea -- in other words, lots of people say and think it.
Get this:
She felt unsafe leaving her home because she was afraid somebody would say something offensive to her.
Is this progress? Or encouraging mental illness and calling it progress?
And this:
She also says she was unable to return to work in a role that required her to have face-to-face contact with white people.
Imagine if a white person said that about other sorts of people.
By the way, the SJW thinking underlying this view is not helping the people whose welfare it professes to have an interest in.
P.S. New York City, where I lived for a good bit of time, is one big open-air commenting section on your looks and everything else.
My favorite comment ever, from a guy crossing the street near me in Times Square: "Never seen a body like that on a white woman!"

Imagine if a white person said that about other sorts of people.
That's because the Ice People are cold hearted bastards, and that's the only place you'll find native racism.
The rest of the planet are from warm climes and have not even the slightest hint of racism.
And I can't say I blame the poor dear, I can't stand facing Ice People, either.
Oh, wait, I just don't like people that much. My mistake.

Why do I think Ms. Prior is one of those people who was allowed to win every game of checkers she played?

I live in NYC. Can confirm.

This is why I cringe when these wanna be censors talk about how we don't need the First Amendment and we should be more like Europe(where they are about to arrest a comedian for making fun or Turkey's Prime Minister btw). If the USA didn't have the First Amendment not only would discourse be censored but people would be put in jail for "offending" people. All in the name of progress of course.

And now you know why their men prefer to spend time in the swamps wrestling with crocodiles.

"In this passage, the court [European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)] implicitly recognized first that "Islamophobia" is a phenomenon deserving recognition by Europe's highest court, and second that fierce public debate can be so upsetting to one bloc of people—which the court has lumped together based on their cultural heritage—that the free expression of others is somehow regrettable."
Will not be long now before a lot of "special" people will be allowed to be protected from "hateful" speech.

So Cathy Young has an interesting article in The Federalist relating to this. No time now; will comment later.

I hate to break it to you, but Australians are often some of the most self righteously PC people you can meet. The country is basically a mix of ignorant hicks and urban puritans. The people are nothing like what's presented in US film and TV.
They're also the dumbest of the Anglo societies. Australians are almost supernaturally inarticulate. They have immense difficulty expressing complex thoughts and typically revert to jibberish when attempting to discuss technical subjects.
You know all that hokey vernacular they use? - it's because they don't know the correct words to use. The average Australian has the vocabulary of an American junior high school student. I'm not kidding.

From the article:
Ms. Prior is seeking to never have to work again. She is taking advantage of any sympathy she can get from white guilt with claims of racism.
She had no problem confronting white people when she asked Alex Wood to leave the indigenous-people-only computer lab. But his subsequent social media post and the comments made on it traumatized her so much she cannot work (or even face white people) anymore?

Hate to say it, but I have seen some of this.
Truth is, when you meet someone outside of their native country, it is usually because they are some of the best and the brightest.
I have a Australian friend who is one of the brightest guys I know. However, his American wife had little good to say about Australia.
They lived there for three years. Their two daughters started school over there, and when they moved to Laramie Wyoming, the mediocre public schools were so far ahead of what they learned in Australia that both girls had to repeat an entire academic year.
At that time literally half the country was on public assistance. Tariffs on imported clothing were so high that women and men used dress makers, and suit makers, because you couldn't afford to buy imported ready made clothes.
And a new car was three times as expensive as the same model in the US.
She said living there was a nightmare, and they could save nothing for retirement. The cost of living, and the taxes took it all.

My Sister worked there for 6 - 9 months years ago and when I teased her about finding an Aussie boyfriend I "heard" shutter over the phone as she said "Oh HELL NO!".

On the other hand, should you ask a sailor of his experience Down Under, he will sing loudly of the sheilas!
Kounelli Photography, moderately unsafe for work, is on Facebook to show you why; apparently these are common there.

I cannot tell you how liberating it is to be old enough to not even have to pretend to care about SJWs. That does stand for Stupid Juvenile Wimps, doesn't it?

Which movies and TV shows are particularly wrong in that aspect? (I've only seen about half a dozen Australian-based movies, I think - and it's ages since I saw any.)
lenona at April 17, 2016 3:34 PM
@Lenona you don't tend to see depictions of Australian Puritans, they're typically portrayed as happy-go-lucky cowboys, wacky eccentrics, or post apocalyptic gay bikers.
I'd lived there for several years working on a contract, and I was genuinely surprised at how stridently PC many of the people I met were. I was living in Sydney and occasionally traveled to Melbourne for work.
It's not uncommon to meet Australians who endorse widespread internet censorship, bans on speech and writing, and a broad regime of social re-engineering to enforce a social justice agenda.
The weird thing is that they don't tend to understand where these ideas come from. They've just been told that 'good' people want these things and 'bad' people don't. But they can't actually make an argument for why. When you ask, they resort of a lot of name calling and emotional appeals.
I think of it comes from a desire to distance themselves from the 'other' Australians (i.e. the hicks). Many Australians are genuinely rather racist and provincial. It's my impression that the lefty politics you find in the cities are a reaction to this.
But this is why there have been repeated attempts to apply a China style filter on internet traffic in Australia along with policing of social media and the infamous ban on portraying small breasted women in film and television - they think that small breasted women encourage pedophilia.
