Thug Cop Drives Dangerously And Tickets A Motorist For It
Cop gives the guy three tickets -- no front plate, tinted windows, and tailgating -- when the cop nearly caused an accident several times: by stopping short in the middle of a road and by then making traffic go around them as he bullied the guy under cover of his cop badge.
The cop is Officer Juan Velez -- and thank you Omar B. (the guy in the car) for bringing this out.
Clearly, the cop's interest is in anything but public safety. Officer Juan Velez is a power-hungry bully using his badge to get his power kicks.
An update on YouTube, on the video, from Omar B:
Update 1: (4/30/16)First of all, I'd like to thank everyone supporting me. I didn't know this video would get as much attention as it's getting. Because of that, I feel like I should bring up what happened after the 'traffic stop.'
On March 31st, I was eating with a friend at a local Zinburger. Afterwards, we were walking to my car and I was explaining to him what happened when the cop slammed on his brakes. A cop car happened to drive by us in the parking lot, and apparently, they overheard the conversation. The cop stopped the car, and confronted me. I don't know how coincidental it is, but the cop was Velez, and a partner.
The first thing he said was "what did you say?" At this point, I was thinking "This guy's a hot head," and tried to diffuse the situation.
We kept going back and forth, but the officer said, "if you were a man, you would say something to my face." The officer also said ,"you are a coward." At that point, he started backing up and I said "sir, you have a badge and uniform and represent the state of NJ, and you act like that?"
At that point, he reapproached me again, shoulders square within 2 feet of me. Safe to say it was uncomfortable. Again, he said I was a coward. I am confident he was trying to provoke me into saying or doing something thst would warrant an arrest, so I just repeated "I will see you in court," at which point I offered to shake his hand, but he just walked away.
I did not put this in the video because I didn't have proof of it, but I have initiated a case with internal affairs about a week after it happened. I also have a witness in my friend who will be involved in the investigation. The partner can also be asked if this happened, but I doubt he would be willing to speak about it.
Regardless, the investigator that I spoke to will be checking if Velez was on duty on the day and time in question, which I was accurately able to provide, along with the my friend's contact into.

One difficulty that a citizen might run into. Where is the line between defending your rights, and trying to defuse a confrontation with an aggressive cop?

I think that's one of those lines that gets drawn more finely when you get taken off to jail.

Hopefully the officer was wearing a body camera during their second confrontation. If he wasn't and they are mandatory use, then he should be fired.

YOU should NOT give a crap how or in what way dumb men get busted by other dumb men. He KNEW he needed a front plate, he KNEW he needed lighter windows, and he knew he was too close to the cop, and the COP knew the intervention was not quite legit-but you shouldn't really give a crap. This is yet another case of two douchebags interacting and an attempt, by the civilian to hijack everyone else's emotions by posting video of the choices.
What NEEDS to happen is MORE of this and ratched up a couple of notches. We need more douchebag cops and more douchebag tattooed men to each team up in groups of 4, step inside a cement arena, and at the sound of a whistle, beat the holy hell out of ea. other with the 2x4s and chains conveniently located in the middle of the arena.
God's making more people. Stop caring about males who are dumbasses.

Adam;
Well, yes, maybe they are TWO dumbasses.
If that is true the one is just that - a dumbass.
But, the other is a dumbass who wears a badge. That is a bad combination.
Brake checking is quite a dangerous thing to do and there is NEVER any excuse for doing it. Never. As a cop he should know better. If he doesn't then he should not be a cop.
And if it took a dumbass to bring this dumbass cop's behavior to light; then so be it. I can't help but think we all will be better for it.
I do, however, like your idea reminiscent of ThunderDome.

Oh, and BTW, too many cops here in Jersey are known for this kind of behavior.
Do something to annoy, harasses other drivers and then give them a ticket.
One, very common, tactic is for the cop to tailgate a driver which causes the driver to speed up - a ha! so, he now catches a speeder.
I'd be willing to bet that this cop was hoping to be rear-ended so that he could get even more charges. Of course, the cop doesn't give a shit about tax dollars being wasted on damaged government property. You know, it isn't his personal car - just other people's money.
Heck, the cop might even get some paid time off for "injuries in the line of duty." The cop would see it as a win-win.
Of course, not all cops are like that - especially all the ones I know personally. At least that is my hope!?

"God's making more people"
One virgin birth at a time.

Give us a little more time Gog and we'll do it without the virgin.

So, the guy stopped in time - as in he didn't hit the cop. That's kinda the definition of not being too close (since too close means you can't do that). So... did the cop prove himself wrong?
